Hi, ask your friend to go to the menu on the remote then utillity,system information,
and see if there is a expiry date on his box,if the expiry date is up you will have to pay a sub to get the box working again.

I've just paid my £25-6 months subs it took a little over 48 hours to come back on and by the way each area as difference's in what channels you get sure you done get the full package deal but it's something the are working on.My S/V 7 expired on the 15th of Aug my new expiry date is the 15th of Feb 2012.I couldn't go out and buy new equipment so i chose to pay the sub way i'm happy with what i've got for the time being but be warned there's web sites posing as being S/V and asking you to send your pay pal to them so do your home work.I also hear something about,foxtel, which is going to effect third party sat box's so i know i aint got the best box in the world but i'm happy with it that's all that counts thank you very much.

mmmm another Sv little helper, i think you are misleading the people here foxtel is nothing to do with sky or NDS, more homework needed here, or your listing to the kiddy to much me thinks.

And virgin could change overnight and your box would be redundant yet again, at least with an open sourced box there is plenty of people to work on it, but Sv is not open sourced or can connect to "ANY OTHER SERVER" but there own, so am i missing somit here !!

And at least with a sat share you wont be missing over 40 channels, and each area is "NOT" different on the Starview box they might have different providers, thats it if one person gets a channel they should all get the same no difference, its not area dependent as they are all connected to one central server, so how can this be area dependent ?? .

So this is what people want to pay for from Starview, here is the most recent channel list

How come my reply was removed?i repied to e45's comment about some crap me being a ,"mmmm another little S/v helper and that i'd been listening to kiddy too much.Think what you like my friend as you're making assumptions based solely on the fact that i have a S/v box and know very little about sat and c/s. I heard about the foxtel on several occasions on a couple of other site's' chinese whispers always do the rounds and if vermin change over night so be it there aint nothing i can do about that.Right i hold my hands up,but like i said from the beginning,"i'm a novice," trying to learn about sat and c/s etc but all i seem to get is ridiculed for having a S/v!I'm the first to admit,i hated S/v's from day one and moved onto eurovox H D that was until the change's took effect then i was back to the basic S/v.It was the quickest and cheapest way to get back on air,you cant knock a man for that.Again i aint got the funds to up date to sat yet so £25 got me back on.The channels you've listed and underlined the one's you dont get, well if you take your time and got back to the channel it will come on a few minutes later.Granted there are a lot of missing channels but we've been promised this will be rectified later so i have to take this at face value.The thing is i aint complaining for what it's cost me i dont mind a limited channel package deal as what's on is what i like.Oviously your a sat man with top of the range tech,{now thats me making assumptions}but based on your knowledge etc on the sat side of things thats how you come across.We all know that S/v is a very substandard box,i'm making the best of my limited resources.When i get some funds together i would love to learn how to operate sat and c/s and i would like to P M you.So if you could spare the time and eduate me it would be well appreciated?The subject of S/v's came to light when a fellow member was in a similar sitution and i give him some advice to the best of my ability which is what i understand these forum are for?Sorry it's been along drawn out reply but i feel i needed to get my point across hope there's no hard feelings but i seem to get the feeling you just blanked me?Correct me if i'm wrong but my reply was definitly missing.If for what ever reason you dont what to get back to me e45 there's no hard feeling thats the way things go!Easy now.

Cheers tongs that's more like it a nice friendly bit of advice good on you and i'll take time out to do some research on the Blade by the sounds of things it's pretty simple to sort out.You dont mined if i ask you,we've just had one of them big fancy communinal dish put up so we can all recieve sky.It's between four of us but noone's using it, will that do the job? believe me it's massive ,they've installed it so we can all access sky without the building being littered with dishes. I live in sheltered accommodation due to illness, i'm on oxygen 24/7 i'm still young and having a box to watch is a god send i'd be lost without it and i couldn't possible afford the real deal. Anyway enough of my crap thanks again and when i get myself sorted and if i come across any difficulties or problems can i give you a shout?Dont worry i wont mither you it's just in case i need a bit of help or advice my friend.I wont be offended if you'd rather not.Cheers.

as from another forum thanks to the Author (lfc4ever)

* * * WARNING * * *

I have been given creditable information that the Starview client database has been compromised and hundreds of customer details copied including email addresses, ip addresses, paypal account id's and box mac Id's. If this is true (and from what i've seen I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this claim) then its a very serious security breach for the starview team.

Passing on some info...ta.

Well if it's true I'm glad I didn't take them up on their offers. Some heavy crap will hit quite a few fans I should think.

Let's see how this develops as let's have it right this guy is living in land cuckoo,most think he's dead important and in the know when to be honest until he can back any of it up he's sad and pathetic.He'll be talking about the secret deals down behind doors and the conspiracy theories next, need i same more? Remember i have resources if you need any reassurance just P M me i'll put you in touch with the right people.The games some people play eh!

I have an A780 in the cupboard was going to flog it until this recent SV7 issue, so my question is does the KV still work and is it still free as I am a little fed up with all of the hassle the Starview 7 is giving me.

Lucky I have a Sat as back up.
