Hello,

I just downloaded DVDShrink and bought a copy of Nero, but am having trouble using them (at least the Nero).

I'm able to successfully copy all of the files from the disc with DVDShrink, but then when I try to start burning with Nero, it goes up to about 6 or 7% complete and then spits out the disc with a burn error message.

Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.

I then tried DVD Decryptor, but the same problem happens. It starts to write and gets a few percent in and then stops with a burn error.

Anyone have an idea what I should try? Thanks.

what burner do you have, what brand media, and what does the error say?

It's a brand new SONY VAIO desktop with the built-in DVD SONY DVD RW DW-D18A VFS2 drive.

I'm using Memorex DVD-Rs.

I can't remember exactly what the message says, but it's something basic like "DVD Write Failed."

I was able to successfully use the drive with a single-click copying program (ICopyDVDs 2) but I was winding up with a lot of freeze-frames, so I wanted to give DVDShrink a try.

The Shrink portion seemed to go fine, and I have a file on my hard drive that I can watch, but when I try to burn it to disc with either the Nero I purchased online or the DVD Encryptor I downloaded for free, I get a similar error message.

I'm new to this, so I don't know all of the terminology very well yet, but it seems like it never gets past an opening stage of the disc writing called the "lead-in" or something like that.

Any light you could shed on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

It could very well be your media. Memorex farms out all their discs and you never know what you are getting from one batch to the next. In other words, they suck! You can use a little free tool called DVDinfopro to see what your discs are.

Since you're having problems with another app, it would seem to me that the problem is not in your programs.

I would also use RW's til you get the problem ironed out. Good media doesn't mean expensive. Branded Ritek G04 sells at Meritline for under .60 ea.w/free shipping. In over 300 burns, I have only had 1 flawed disc.

I have Nero 6, as well as DVD Shrink.
I have a movie on my hard drive , it has a VIDEO_TS folder that contains a collection of vub, ifo, and VOB files in it.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FROM HERE TO GET A DVD?
I have no problem removing the copyrite and burning a disc from a disc, but as far as burning a disc from files stored on my hard drive, how is it done?
many sleepless nights trying,
Jonathan

the disc to disc seems to be simple, I am using a laptop, so i needed to create a virtual drive with damon tools, all i do is put in a dvd, run it thru the DVD Shrink, mount it on my virtual drive made with the damon tool then burn it with nero

Yeah, the Nero part is where I'm having trouble. I can't get it to burn without stopping with a burn error after a minute or two.

I've tried DVD Decryptor, and a similar problem happens with that, too, unfortunately.

It's weird, because I'm using a brand new out-of-the-box Sony VAIO desktop that came with a DVD +- RW drive, so I assume it should work with these programs.

OK.
To burn from one disc to another using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter is pretty easy. ya need nothing more than the 2 of those.
first open dvd shrink, in the top left click open disc, then a box will pop up that says no disc, insert the disc you want burnt.when the title of your DVD appears in the box that said no disc, click ok.
If you checked the little box that says enable video preview, you will see the video encoding, this only takes like a minute or less on my computer.
Then a new box will pop up and start analysing yer video, this takes about a half hour on my computer.
after that is done, a new box will pop up,the top will say, select target device (ISO image)
the bottom will say, select target image file(DVD title)
check the bottom box that says burn with dvd decrypter.
it will burn and be done with a playable dvd.

Thanks for your response.

For some reason, I've tried all of that, and it starts making the disc, but then it always stops with the burn error message I posted above.

I don't know what can be causing it. I've now tried a couple different kinds of media.

tripperh, sorry I took so long, been using RB/CCE. I noticed that from your log it doesn't seem to recognize your media. It also shows medium error.

You said you tried TDK, I've found them to be OK, did you use DVDinfopro to analyze them? Also, you said you were going to try G04's, did you do that?

I'm now wondering if your firmware needs updating. I would also check your ASPI layer.

Somewhat of a solution to my problem. Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I ended up changing the burn speed from 4x to 2x and I've been able to make two perfect looking discs.

I don't know why that should be, but I'm not going to fret over a few more minutes of burn time if it makes it work.

So far, I've been successful with one TDK and GQ (Great Quality?) DVD-R and one GQ DVD-RW.

Wish me luck with future burnings.

I just downloaded and installed DVDshrink 3.2 to use in conjunction with my Nero 6
when I click open files on DVD Shrink to load my VIDEO_TS folder that contains all the VOB, vup,ifo files i get a message saying that the system cannot find the file specified.I tried dragging and dropping the folder on it as well and got the same message,
on Nero I had the burning rom open to dvd video, when i drag and drop my folder there i get a message that says:the file starsky and hutch.nrg is larger than 2GB and therefore cannot be stored in an ISO file system.please use the UDF file system to write such large files.this can be done by selecting another compilation type.
does anyone know what this means, or what I am doing wrong?
thank you in advance

I'm not sure where the file came from, my friend was here at my house and it appeared when he was here. I have viewed the file several times but would like to put it on disc to save some of the limited space on my laptop.
