i did a search in the forums and it looks like the other thing to do is "uninstall the IDE controller that the reader is attached and reboot.". Once again i'm mystified as to how to do this.

Hi,

Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >

Find the controller your drives are on (primary or secondary), right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the controller.

i uninstalled the 2ndary controller, rebooted, both were set to pio, i changed, and and device "0" which is my burner is set to ultra dma mode 2, the device 1 which is my dvd-rom is still set to pio mode, but now there seems to be another problem even though its saying dma, its taking like an hour to read the disk. last night after i took apart the computer, and set the master and slave, using one drive it took like 10 minutes to read and like 15 minutes to burn.
