I have a version 7 PS2 with a swap magic mod chip installed. After installation, everything worked fine for about four days. Now the system will not power on. Any suggestions?

From what I can tell, the fuses are fine. The PS2 still will not power on. The light on the power button does not even light up.

Been awhile since I had mine apart but.. Doesn't the power and reset button connect with a ribbon cable or something like that? I seem to remember you having to unplug it or being carefull while taking it apart. I would check that..

It worked great for about 4 days. Then one day, it just did not power on. No lights display on the power button or anything.

i got a disc stuck in the cd drive half in half out, do to the disc getting stuck on my finger while swapping, the drive would not eject the disc, i pulled the disc out and manually shut the door the rest of the way then turned the system off, it never turned back on, i totally disassembled the ps2 and one of my friends, i know its not the power supply, fuse, or switch, not the power/eject switch, not the modchip, and i put his working cd drive in mine and it still would not power on, the only conclusion i can come to is the board is shot, anyone have any suggestions?

you need to check a few things, first the ribbon cable that runs from the reset/eject buttons, make sure there is no damage or that it is not loose, then check the surface mounted fuses with a multi meter, they should conduct and have a resistance of zero, if not then any faulty fuses should be replaced with one of the same value, also have you checked the fuse on the psu?.

Yeah. Bought a machine for fifteen bucks that powered on, but didn't read disks. So I just swapped CDROM drives, and all is well.

Hi All, I have had the same problem with exactly the same cause. A swop magic non solder chip, after a few days lost all power. I checked the main fuse on the board which was fine. In the end I bought a new power board but that did not fix the problem. Still no power. I have checked all the leads and they all seem to be plugged in and ok.

Any ideas???

Damn that's not cool. I was actually thinking of doing just that. Maybe buying a damaged unit and replacing all the power bits one bit at a time until it springs back into life is the way to go then. Thanks for the info
