"If Available" means nothing. It's the Current Transfer Mode that counts :)

What's listed as the current transfer mode?

Have you defragged lately?

My HD is currently in PIO mode. It was on DMA until August 4th when it certainly changed to PIO, I am not sure why.

I have defragged lately, but it keeps terminate or freeze while it was defragging... plus with DMA off, it was slow as hell.

It might help to uninstall the drive through Device Manager. Try this,

Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >

Depending on whether your drive is on the Primary or Secondary IDE (most main hard drives are on primary), right click the appropriate one and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.
