don't think its a case of which is better but most people seem to find dvd-r more compatable with a greater range of ps2 models, you say you have a v9 ps2 so realy you should have no problems with dvd+r media maybe its just a case of your ps2 just doesn't like that paticular brand of media that you are using or you got a marginal burn on that paticular game backup

I've never used DVD+R disks, so I can't really say anything about them, but I find almost all people I know who make backups, including myself, use DVD-R.

PS2 V7
Matrix Infinity Chip
Plextor PX-708UF External DVD Re/Writable Combo Drive
LG DVD-ROM DRD8160B Internal Drive
Fujifilm DVD-R
Nero Burning ROM 6.5 w/ NeroVision Express
Alcohol 120%
DVD Decrypter

i have a v5 ps2 with a messiah mod fitted...

in regards to which media is better for ps2 back ups, it all depends on your ps2, the chip, the media, the speed its burnt at etc etc

obviously you have had some troubles wiht +r media so do the smart thing and use -r...

i use -r media using DVD Decrypter iso read / iso write mode and at 2x speed and they all seem to work fine on mine...

if you havent got DVD Decrypter then download it free at:
http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download

as you say, the +rs work on your mates ps2 so therefore its simply a compatibility problem with you ps2 and the +r media.

besides, -r media is cheaper than +r media at the moment, so why not try it out...

hope that helps you out a bit...

I.M.O. DVD+R works better for PS2.
My PS2 is alot less noisy when reading a DVD+R and it's a little faster when it comes to loading.

Just wondering around

OLYMPIC SHOULD BE BARRED FROM BEING ON HERE...WHAT A JERK..

When using DVD XCOPY Pentium...found that if you use the SIMPLE MODE...and UNCHECK the ENTIRE box..there is far less compression, if any, and 99% of burns are successful..What a difference. Nice to have all the out-takes...etc, but we all want the movie...not the sales pitches.

i found out what the real problem was. Its wasn't the dvd+r nor -r. I used glue to put on a printer cd cover that i printed from cdcover.cc. it was the glue that made it hard for the laser to read (somehow).. I figured that out few days ago when i got my backed splinter cell PT and played it without any problems.. then i put a cd cover using too much glue and then the game froze on the second loading screen after 15 minutes just like socom. so i removed the cover and used a little water to remove the glue and it never freezes anymore...

SO.... Which is better?

I'm about to buy a 100 pack of Ritek DVD-R G05's. But, I've been burning backups with DVD+R's from Ritek. I hope I don't end up with a 100 pack of DVD-R's I can't use. Would that happen? (Yeah, I just modded my PS2 and I'm a newbie at backups. So, go easy on me!)
