Is there a way to verify that a DVD burned correctly without playing it in a DVD player or computer?

Maybe a stupid question but I was just wondering and I couldn't find anything from searching the site.

I also want to thank everyone who took the time to write the guides for this site, I have found them invaluable in figuring this stuff out.

You can see if Shrink is able to analize the disc.

Hiya mwelicka,

There are numerous ways to check:

Use a GOOD burning program that allows verify after burn.

AND/OR

Perform an ALL FILES read of the resultant DVD using DVD Decrypter (a DVD-Rom drive would be quicker than your burner, also checks disk can be read by a drive OTHER than the drive it was created on).

AND/OR

Use Shrink as above.

etc. etc.

If you are using one of the Joe-Sixpack type programs that do not allow that level of control over burning, then you can only use the second or third options.

The first option is preferable.

It all depends on your duplicating/burning method/programs.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the quick reply, I am currently using Shrink/Nero for burning, what softwares would allow a verify after burning?

If I use Shrink to analyze the disk or perform an ALL FILES using DVD Decrypter will that show me stuttering or choppy video?

I think there is a check box that you can select on the start burn screen on Nero Express that is "verify written data after burning."

Hopefully this is what you are looking for.

Hiya,

ALL FILES using decrypter will give you the following info:

number of read errors
min read speed
max read speed average read speed
and a load of other info too...

the combination of the above and a bit of experience will give you a very reliable indication of the readability of the disk - it will not guarantee the ability of that disk to play in a stand-alone player (too many other factors)

It will read the whole disk pretty quickly (using a DVD-Rom drive).

Nero has a verify after burn function (not with an ISO burn though - you need something like RecordNow Max for that).

Have Fun...
