Video File to Disc

This may be in the wrong topic but ppl here are usually the most helpful. I downloaded a movie, its a PowerDVD file and i want to know how to burn it to a disc. DO i need to burn it to a DVDr or CDr and how do i burn it. i use DVDShrink with DVD Decrypter to copy dvd's and Roxio to burn cdr's.The movie is a pretty big file,....its about an hour long.

A PowerDVD file? Can you find the actual file extension for this. I've never heard of a PowerDVD file before. You sure it is not something like an .AVI or mpeg download?

Yes, you're spot on frank.
My guess is that you'll have to run it through TMPGEnc to render it into an DVD compliant MPEG2 file then run it through TMPGEnc DVD Author to get your full VOB files (the VOBs you get from TMPGEnc aren't the correct format). Once you've done DVD Author just burn to disc. If you're using Nero, use Nero Classic and select DVD Video.
An alternative is to use Nero's NeroVision and then burn to disc.

I understand DngChavez but there are MPEG's that are DVD com,patiable and some that are not.

We really need you to part with some information so that we can help. Guessing isn't what a forum is about, you need to ask a question and provide enough information so that we can answer it -
So far all that you have told us in that you downloaded a movie from the Internet and you say it's "a pretty big file".
For starters, Exactly how big is the file ?

What exactly is the suffix of the file ?
( Power DVD is a player not a file designation. )
Do you have a CD burner ?
If you have a DVD burner, that's usually best way to go. Do you have a DVD burner ?
When you tell us the size, we can decide whether it will fit on a CD or a DVD.
Lastly, Why would you want to burn with Roxio when DVD Decrypter will do it "automatically" with DVD Shrink ?

The file is 710MB.
I have a cd burner and a dvd burner.
and i tryed to open it with DVD Shrink and it wouldnt recognize it. i only use roxio when burning cd's.

You are just going to have to figure out what type of file it is.
Here is how I find out:
Open Windows explorer and find the file.
Right click on it.
Select Propertys.
Click on the Change button.
At the top of the Open With window look for "File:"
There will be your file with a three letter extension after the file name. (.AVI, etc)
This is what we want to know.
Don't change anything, you're just going here to see what the file extension is.

Good deal! What you need to do next is author the mpeg. This will add the structure so your DVD player can play it. For this you need an authoring program. You may be able to do it with Roxio. I don't have it so I'm not sure. Roxio has a program called Easy DVD Creator or something like that.
When I download movies they are almost always .AVI files. I have to convert these to mpeg files and then author. You have mpeg-1 which should be ok. I think a CD only holds 700Mb so you need to use a DVD or a couple of CDs.
I have and use both Nero and TMPGEnc DVD Author to do the authoring process with. Basically you just open the program then find your mpeg and run it through. Once that's done you can burn the results.
I don't burn VCDs though it looks like the process is similar. Just be aware of what you are going to burn to. If you do DVDs then I would stick with that.
