Thanks Londor. Are these the highest quality DVD-R's available ? I'm looking for the highest quality (in terms of longevity) for some precious recordings.

The best discs are made by Maxell (MXL), Taiyo Yuden (TY), Pioneer (PVC) and Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC).

At this moment I do not think anybody knows which manufacturer is going to outperform the others in terms of longevity in real life conditions. The thing we know for sure is that cheap media with cheap dyes can fail within 1 year.

I managed to find this site http://www.disccity.co.uk/acatalog/DVDR.html that was selling datawrite discs using tyG02 dye 25 for £7.25.I bought some, they have no id written on them but show the dye as stated.Super quick service, poor packaging, and the discs were the worst ive used.Id rather use Princo.I also bought some ANV 8x ritek go5 and heyre fine.Just a warning.....just cos a disc has a decent dye doesnt mean its any good

Hi pieman.

The discs you bought were fake TY almost for sure.

And I think this site (disccity) is owned by SVP, as they have a lot of sites under different names but if you see the products and the web page layout you will understand that it is of the same owner.

But those discs you bought were NOT TY! they were fakes...TY are excellent!

Many websites in the UK have the same products not because they belong to the same owner it is because all of them buy from the same distributor ENet which is well known for rebranding and overprinting downgraded stock.

Yes you are right at some point. Though, many other sites also buy from E-net and other distributors as well but have different looks. If you see the shopping cart system and other "details", you will see what I am saying.

I think they are similar just because both websites are powered by Actinic E-commerce Software Solutions and Shopping Carts but if you say they belong to the same owner that may be it.

Yes PieMan I know they are shown with media code as TY, but they are still fakes if they are datawrite, bulkpaq, or budget... Have a look at this forum as well... http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=103828

I bought some tys from SVP last week. They are genuine and ABSOLUTELY SUPERB.I thought initially that they were as good as ritex ANV 8x, but having looked deeper into the burns so to speak, can catergorically state that ritek(traxdata and the rest) and verbatim suck compared to these guys.Yes they are expensive but as everyone knows u get wot u pay for.I will use nothing else from now on.They are THAT good!Give SVP a shout whilst theyve still got em!!

Just a quick one to let you all know that Disccity are in no way associated with SVP. And as for the fake TY's we bought them in good faith. As soon as we realised they were not the Pukka thing we withdrew them from sale.

After recently going the SVP/T-Y route, I can second Pieman's plaudits. The TYG02's I got give vastly better burns in my NEC 2510a at 8x than ANY geniune Ritek disks I've tried, at any speed.

It's Yudens only for me from now on, and if the price seems high, remember with T-Y you get NO coasters and NO worries.

Glad to see the TY media being applauded. I'll be using these for my personal backups from now on. Customers can have Ritek ;)
