I am new to dvd burning, I burn dvd movies which are more than 4.3 gb each. I am using DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and Nero 6.
The problem is afte following all the steps, when I hit Backup it take hours to encode the DVD movie?
Can I reduce this time somehow? I am running on P-III-550 Mhz, 192 MB RAM.
It takes time in Deep Analysis then takes hours doing Encoding. I mean if I am putting a dvd which is not encrypted,is there a way I camn just do the shrinking part to save time.

BIGORANGE AND SCUBAPETE,
I started with petes new directions above, last night. I cleaned the dvd with alcohol and presto...I could use shrink. I left it alone but have my computer on to go to sleep after 5 minutes so I did, shake the mouse from time to time to check the status. Anyway, everything went well, I saved it to my folder like you said and use decrypter to burn it to the CHEAP DVD+R (Imation). I saw it go to decrypter and then I went to bed to wake this am and find it burned successfully. YIPPI. NO.... I tryed to play it in my rom and it told me to put in a cd. It wouldn't recongize the dvd. Soooooooo I broght it down to my laptop and tried that. It read it but played in slow motion. I couldn't fast forward to the movie. I just tried it in my dvd player and it just continues to say loading. What now? Could it really be the cheap dvd? I am up to my 3rd coaster. I am going for a set. Did touching the mouse have something to do with it???? I know I was suppose to leave it alone but...I will change the setting on the monitor, I promise. A friend of mine uses cheap dvds but not with shrink and decrypter. She uses sofeware and just copies to her burner. I will order good dvds, I saw the list. BUT in the mean time can I try it with another brand I can buy at a local store? And is my copy in the folder ok?

nailedny,

guarantee it's your media. Get Ritek G04 from Meritline, great prices(.40-.47 ea. w/free shipping), very good company. You'll get 'em in 3 days or so. In the meantime? WalMart sells Verbatim pretty cheap, another excellent brand. I bought a pack of 5, they look like old timey reels, for 10 or 12.00 I think. Also, buy a couple of RW's to work with to save on coasters, tho the media you have is already coaster material. lol ;)

You should be able to play it, what software player do you have, also what standalone player do you have?

LOL,BTW,no, touching your mouse didn't cause a problem. ;>)

RS2003, your quite welcome. :)

Scsi Status 0x02
Interpretation Write (10)sectors 352-383

ok, I must sound like a real idiot but I am a woman possesed!!! After 40 minutes and 0% complete I hit cancel. Got alittle impatient and a message came up "Be patient, I heard you the first time." I am even getting yelled at by my computer. lol
I have read this forum from page 1-7 (page 7 is mostly my posts) and the I/O error is due to cheap media?? I bought sony rw. I finally get shrink to work and save to my HD, open decrypter and now having all sorts of problems. When I backed up last night from shrink to decrypter everything was fine just couldn't play the movie, I thought it was the media. Today I buy what I think is good media and .....errors.I cleaned the dvd with alcohol before inserting it too. Anybody??

sony dvd+rw.
I am also finding that out of no where my computer doesn't recognize my burner, so I restart and then there it is. Weird huh?? I went to downloaded dvdinfo and it recommended firmware upgrade. My burner is a Micro Advantage superdrive. I went to the web site and looked at compatable media. The sony is not listed. But the dvdinfo did not recognize the sony as sony. I might return this burner and buy a NAME brand. I think Pete recommends NEC. I was thinking of a Sony as that is what my cd burner that came with my dell was until I removed it to install this POS.

nailedny,

" finally get shrink to work and save to my HD, open decrypter and now having all sorts of problems."

No.1-if you set up shrink correctly you need never open decrypter to burn. It will do it automatically. If you're not using ISO files decrypter can't burn 'em.
If you set "use decrypter with ISO files" in the target window after hitting backup in shrink and make sure "enable burn with nero" is UNchecked, decrypter should do it's job and you'll never open it.

No.2-I think I told you what media to get and you got Sony, hmmm.......A lot of media is made by different manufacturers on different batches, so you could buy the same brand and get a different one each time with each batch. That's why I recommended Ritek and Verbatim, also get "BRANDED" so there's no chance of being knockoffs.

No.3-I also told you NEC, Plextor, and LiteOn are all good brands of burners that are dual format. Now you're talking about another brand, Sony I believe.

No.4-You're reading but you're not listening, your impatience to succeed is overpowering your need to listen to the advice, even if it takes a little longer to put everything into play correctly. lol

I understand your impatience, believe me, I do. It's very gratifying when it all comes together, but you need to heed the advice, since you are the one asking. It's also gratifying for us when we help you to get it to work ;>)

jockey747,

First you'll have to give me your PC's specs -

Second, go to device manager and check your IDE for your burner and see if it's set on PIO or DMA mode. It should be set on DMA.

Let me know -

Pete

xklante,

Let me know what media you're using.

Make sure your burning mode is set to ISO Image and in DVD Decrypter, make sure "Verify" is "Un-ticked".

Cheers,

Pete

Sorry Big!! I did read that sony was good media somewhere in this forum. I will return them and buy verbatum. I couldn't get verbatm in rw and with all the coasters I am making...
I do have decrypter set up properly but after another coaster last night I decided to backup a movie to my HD and get the right media and burn it later. But...I guess I don't have the right media yet!!! So I guess I will get good media, try my burner, be patient and see how it goes. I will keep you posted. If you think of anything else please give me a SCREAM, maybe I will hear you!!! LOL

nailedny,

I didn't mean to come down on you, I want you to succeed as much as you. Keep me up on the situation and we WILL get you through this. Sometimes you have to eliminate possibilities to get to the problem. It may take some time(sorry) but it'll work eventually. :>)

that's ok big. Sometimes you need to hit someone over the head. I am now on Meritline's site. You said Ritek G04 Branded. I need +R and they don't seem to have the G04 in +R. My toshiba only plays +. Should I just get branded in 4x or 8x?
Thanks

Hi there xklante,

When using DVD Decrypter there are 2 things that will work on it -

1. An ISO image

2. A VIDEO_TS folder with VOBs, IFOs and BUPs -

What type were you trying to use with it ?

If it was a DVD - Try cleaning it first then play it on your PC's PowerDVD (or what have you) then open it up with DVD Decrypter THEN try to rip it, remember to shut your player down as you begin your rip.

Also try to go into Tools, Settings and then either ISO read or Files and "tick" remove PUOs.

Give it a try and get back to me -

Cheers,

Pete

Hi nailedny,

I am so very sorry, getting to my Email slowly - today

FIRST - Sony is an excellent disc, no problem there

Second, I kind of like NEC BUT I love Pioneer or Plextor as single layer burners or NEC as Dual-layered. You shouldn't have had trouble with your Sony though - give me the model number and I'll check it out for you -

We need to check our Firmware - I need your model # for that.

We need to check your ASPI layer too -

Here's something on that - there some ASPI links here too:

http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm

I want you to download this and run it first - it will check your ASPI layer -

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?cat=%2fProduct%2fEZ-SCSI_5.0&filekey=aspichk.exe&sess=no

Lastly, I'd like you to PRINT OUT the guide you're using then check DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to make sure all the settings are exact -

Hang in there Kiddo, we'll get you going, won't we Big "O" ?

Pete

LOL, Pete, Hopefully, LOL

nailedny, I wasn't saying Sony was bad, just that I was trying to make a point that follow directions. Altho Sony discs aren't bad, I think they are overpriced and not as good as Ritek or Verbatim. Same point with the burner.

ASPI would be a good thing to check. Here is another good site explaining ASPI and downloads.
http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm

A couple of other things to check along with Pete's excellent suggestions:

1) Is your burners firmware up to date?

2) Is your ide settings set to DMA?

We'll drown ya with suggestions,lol. ;>)

Actually there Big "O",

Sony's are as good as RiData using the same dye as the G04's. But I agree, they are "Pricey" -

It's not sounding like a DMA / PIO problem as it's not a time thing it's a transfer thing -

I really should have sent her this as it not only explains ASPI but has a few ASPI drivers PLUS the Sony recommended Force ASPI 1.7 (yes I know that 1.8 is the latest but this site offers the best of everything :)

You're doing well with the young lady, I'll wander elsewhere - iffin ya need me, just shout -

and nailedny, I'm happy you remembered I said Sony was good. I'm the only one who included it in my guide, I'm happy someone read it :)

Best "O" Luck -
"P"
