xklante, it sounds like it's your burner to me. There is nothing wrong with that media, in fact it's what i use, or the G04. Your burner doesn't sound like it's compatible with the media, you may have to flash it. I am not familiar with that brand, but it definitely sounds like firmware update time..

Someone else,(I believe in this thread) had the same problem, and they went out and bought a PLextor, problem solved. Good brands of burners are Plextor(imo, the best), NEC, LiteOn, and Pioneer. I am not recommending you go out and buy a burner, just giving you some info.

Let me conclude by saying this, usually the faster the burn, the more the errors. Even tho I can burn at 12x, I NEVER do. I burn all my dvd's at 4x and sometimes even 2.4x if the situation warrants.

I've never understood the need to save 10 minutes when you're dealing with something that'll last for years if burned and handled correctly. Not to mention the media is costlier the higher you go with the burn speed. But, that's just my take on it. :)

gimpie, again, let me say that there is nothing wrong with the Riteks. All I use is the G05 and G04 or the branded ridata 4x, never had a problem w/them. In 400 burns only 1 bad disc. I would stay away from the cheap prodiscs. If the only reason you're using them is to burn faster, i think that's a big mistake.

As I just told xklante, burning at higher speeds causes more errors, not to mention the cost of the media is much higher, especially buying in packs of 100 or more.

Why save 5-10 minutes burning, increasing the risk of errors or a bad burn? If burned correctly this disc will last a lifetime, I just don't think it's worth the risk. As posted earlier i even burn at 2.4x and know people that won't burn any higher than 2.4x and they've been in this business a looong time. ;)

Anyway that's my 2 cents(which probably isn't worth 1 cent, lol). As far as your redundancy error, I'm not sure, as Pete stated, that usually is a media or compatibility error. A firmware update may be in order. If you do flash your drive, be careful, you can really screw it up if you don't know what you're doing. Good luck.....:>)

chrisk,

This is how to partition your hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS to do work with video files. Video files are some of the largest files you can work with on your PC and your HD needs room to move around. NTFS will handle 10g files while FAT32 only handles 4g files. OK, to begin:

1)click on: start

2)control panel

3)performance and maintenance

4)administrative tools

5)computer management

6)disk management

7)right click on the unused portion of your hard drive

8)click on new partition

9)you can also right-click free space in the extended partition, and then click New Logical Drive.

10)In the New Partition Wizard, click Next, click Primary partition, Extended partition, or Logical drive, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE-do NOT choose format or reformat, you could lose all your info and have to start all over. All you are wanting to do is split your HD into two file systems. Use so much for FAT32 and so much(the bulk) for NTFS, that will be plenty of space to do all your video work on, but make sure you delete all video files when a project is completed successfully to keep plenty of free space..

If you feel uncomfortable doing this you can use partition magic 8 It makes it real easy. all you need is the free version.

You will have to wait a little while as your PC takes some time to do this function. When done you are ready for the biggest video file!

Good luck.....

I read somewhere that some of the dvd copy software will not work with the dual layer drives even if you are copying onto a single layer media. Is that true when using DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink? I would like to get a dual layer drive since they are no more expensive than regular ones? You guys talk a lot more about the quality of the disk than about the drives themselves - so I assume that I can buy based on price?

Also when using the above 2 products, is there a way to copy the movie (and chapters) without any compression so that it just spans 2 disks if needed?

Thanks

I bought the prodisc's just to play around and to see if +R would be read in my PS2. I wanted to figure out which format to burn my backups in +/-. Both have worked fine, so I think I will stick with - as I have a stack of Riteks to burn through. I only have about 10 of them (Pro Disc), and will not buy them again, I haven't had problems, but from what I have read in the last couple weeks, it is just a matter of time before I have a handful of frisbies to play with. I am not in a big hurry to flash my drive as I just got it a couple weeks ago and am not so pressed to save 8 minutes to burn faster. I just thought it would be nice to be able to, since the drive and media are both supposed to burn at 8x. I will stick with the Ritek media as it works great for me.

I have a dual layer drive in my laptop that was recently purchased, made by NEC. I have had no problems other than user mistakes when it comes to burning DVD's. I haven't tried to burn a DL disc, a little to expensive for my taste, and who needs to with great programs like shrink and decrypter. Paired together they make excellent copies and have some good features to do so in a few simple steps.

I recently copied Godfather and it came out fine, I used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, Also I have Nero 6 installed.
The backup files are still in my hard disk and I want to make another copy of the movie.
But when I try to do that it says "your source and destination folder are same".
Can I burn those files straight using Nero, will it give a full movie with all the menus?
Also I am not sure if I am buring using Nero or Decrypter. Where can I check that and which is a better option?

Hi All,

chrisk72,
Quote:

You'll need to try to rip it with DVD Decrypter in the "File" made then pickup the files with DVD Shrink and process as usual.

At DVD Digital Forum the DVD Shrink experts are saying to use DVD Shrink 3.17 - it'll do it with out a problem :)

Cheers,

Hi ozzy1,
Quote:

So sorry, so untrue - first the quality is worse that the new 3.2 DVD Shrink. Secondly, DVD XCopy needs 4 mouse clicks and after DVD Shrink is setup, it takes only 3 mousie clickie thingies :)

Also, when speaking about the so-called 1-click encoders, there are many far better than DVD XCopy.

Stick around, we almost all of us bought DVD XCopy and later realize that we were "screwed". Play with some of our programs and you'll change your mind too -

Cheers, my new friend, you'll learn -

Hi ubu,

NO, DVD Shrink is dual-layered compatible.

No way, buy on quality NEVER price (unless your rich AND dumb, in that case send me a bucket of $50.00's (Lol)
Quote:

That's why there are 2 layers - so you'll need no compression. If you copy Just the movie, you'll have your full menus and chapters and pop-corn (Lol) most of the time without compression. It depends on the DVD. With dual-layered, you'll do it all the time.

Cheers,

Pete

ASPI - WINASPI32.DLL
ASAPI - ASAPI.DLL
SPTI - MICROSOFT
ALBYCDIO - ELABORATE BYTES
PATIN - COUFFIN - VSO SOFTWARE
Out of all these options, SPTI - Microsoft is selected by default. My burnings are going except itt akes a long time to Ananlyze and Backup the disk. Please advise if the settings are correct and if changing them can make any better.

jockey,

in shrink 3.2 to burn with nero go to edit>preferences>fileI/O>check enable burn with nero.

to burn with decrypter, uncheck enable with nero, after hitting backup(when all your editing and custom compression is ready)a window will pop up called backup dvd, the 1st tab is target device. From the drop down menu choose "burn with decrypter using ISO files".

Finally if you have nero ultra 6, open nero express. Then open a seperate window with your backup files. Click and drag that ENTIRE folder to the VIDEO_TS folder in nero express(ignore the AUDIO_TS folder). It will automatically pick the files from the folder it needs. Hit next, select your burner and burn speed and hit burn. DONE. ;>)

jockey, also in decrypter I use the default setting SPTI-microsoft, in general i do have my setting changed from normal to aggresive for ripping purposes.

My burnings are going except it takes a long time to Ananlyze and Backup the disk. Please advise if the settings are correct and if changing them can make any better

If you are using the new quality settings in shrink 3.2 (which are located in the above window I just told you about under quality settings)it will increase times dramatically, but is well worth the extra time on compression over 10%.

This will affect encoding times, but shouldn't affect analyzing times which should only take 1-2 minutes when 1st opening shrink. Are you confusing the two?

@xklante...
I've noticed from browsing the shelves at the local stores that alot of the Sony dual format burners have higher rated burn speeds for + media than for - media. (There's a sticker on the box that says you can get a patch from Sony to make them even for more $) So maybe your drive might be like the Sony drives in that manner.

@dolz85...
Really need to know the error from decrypter to keep this troubleshooting going. Can you try the same fillm again without parental interuption?

Hi all. I'm just posting to tell you of my success story with burning dvds. Scuba, Big Orange, and others were extremely helpful and I deeply appreciate it. I'm up to almost ten dvds now, and not a single problem. I just needed my good ol' Ritek +Rs I bought. You people rule!

Well I have good news...I went and returned that P.O.C burner that I had (Micro Advantage)and got me a MAD DOG 6 in 1. They were on sale at COMPUSA so it was only a $20.00 difference and I'm very please with it. I burned several movies already @ 4x and works great so it cut my time by 50% to 66% and still have the quality that I was looking for. Thank everyone that helped out and gave me suggestions. I'm here if anyone needs any help...

fawks, there is nothing wrong with shrink and decrypter, especially the new shrink 3.2! Too many people have great success with it, usually it's operator error, system, or media that causes problems.

One problem I know you have is your media, princo sucks! One of the worst! Terrible track record and causes ALL the problems you just described.

You can get "branded" Riteks G04 4x -R or Ridata 4x +R for under .50 each w/free shipping at Meritline, a very reputable company.

Give them a go and you'll see what I mean. :)

xklante,
I did throw that Micro Advantage up against the wall. I had so many problems in the few days I had it that I removed it, packed it up, and returned it!!!! I bought a Plextor that Big O and Scubapete recommended. I paid alittle more but I had no problem backing up 3 dvds. I thouoght that DVDShrink was too sophisticated for that burner. ALSO, Roxio doesn't play well with others. I uninstalled it and removed it but still was unable to back up. My suggestion is to get rid of it and get a Plextor, Nec or LiteOn. It made my life so much easier. Good Luck and keep me posted.

nailedny,

Well happy to hear that you did the same thing as I did. I'm very happy with the new one like you said a few extra bucks but let me tell you that it will pay for it self. On a different note I just tried to backup Scarface and it was "micro pausing" thru the entire movie. This was the second copy the first one did it and it also had the spanish subtitles on it. Since I only Shrink the movie because I was getting errors with DVD Shrink I couldn't take them off. I have send a few of my partners to this site...Because everyone so far has been great and helpful!!! Hope that this continues. Thank to all... See my new signature. Screw that Micro Advantage P.O.C

Hello to all. First time caller :) Love this thread. I'm a bit of a newby regarding burning software. As ScubaPete instructed here, I've downloaded DVD Decypter, however, the DVD Shrink seemed to be in a zip file and I can't seem to open it. It asks to "click the program I choose open it with". Every program I've tried says "Could not open DVDShrink file" Is there another route I can take to open and download DVD Shrink? I'm running Windows ME on a Dell Dimension 4300. Thanks in advance for any help.

jockey747,

Could you please explain why you're not using a guide ?

If you wish to play with the settings without a clue as to what you're doing, you're truly lQQking for trouble in making a successful burn.

Pete

Fawks,
Quote:
DVD Shrink and Deycripter arent that good I think,
That's quite a leap - One burn with, I assume no guide, and the proggy isn't very good - WOW -

Did it occur to you that perhaps you didn't do everything correctly ?

To see if the answer may perhaps lie elsewhere besides the proggy, can you tell us what guide you're using ?
Quote:
with another my ps2 couldn't even read it.(its not my ps2 as its read every other 1)
Playing a DVD isn't recommended by Sony. If you wish to go against the recommendations of the manufacturer you may wish to be a bit more careful about not using our recommendations - We've done this many times, if you wish not to use the guide that's right here in this thread then why are you complianing About the results ?

The problems you're experiencing make it look like it's 99% your media and perhaps your DVD target size.I assume you've read our recommendations, again, when we named your media as not being suitable for DVD backups, why did you use it ?)

Thousands upon thousands of pple are so impressed by DVD Shrink they'll use nothing else.

As my good friend bigorange already told you, your media is soo close to the bottom of the "Poor list" it needs a sump pump every time it rains -

Pete

Just a note pple, with the exception of burners, this thread has a ton of information in it - I'm trying to understand why you have read this thread from the beginning before you posted and continue to ask the questions already covered. Could someone PLEASE clue me in ??? Don't tell me you just jumped to the end and started to post - How did you know this was the correct thread ?

I don't mind repeating myself but when your topic has already been covered in depth at times more than once, why, OHhh, why are you just trying to cause yourselves problems ?

Come-on guys . . . .
