Hi,
There are a lot of advise here about copy right protected DVD here. I want to burn a DVD with some sort of right protection so that it will make copy harder (encrypt?). I know there is always a way to decrypt it. Just want make the copy as hard as possible. I contacted Pinnacle support and get nothing useful. Does any expert here know any encrypter? Where can I get it? Are any other threads or other forums talked about this? Thanks.

oukie, congrats on being coasterless,LOL. You can use shrink in the re-author mode, here is an excellent interactive guide ddlooping wrote:

http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php

You can also use DVD2One, but shrink is free. :>)

Uh-oh, sorry. I just realized these aren't DVD compliant, Hmmm...brainfreeze. I was thinking adding 2 DVD's to one and burn. DOH!

You can use NeroVisionExpress(NVE) which comes with Nero Ultra 6. You can load it every month til you decide to buy and use it the entire month. Load update packs 1,2,4,5 and 6. Do NOT load 3(InCD)it can cause problems, it's a packet writing software.

You can add all the files in NVE, it will convert them and let you create a menu and chapters and burn to DVD. If you decide to do this and have problems let me know, I wrote a quickie guide for NVE that may be helpful. :>)

There's another proggy out which is about 1/2 the cost and also has a free trial - it's called DVD Santa -

http://www.dvdsanta.com/features.htm

ALSO,

Here's some notes (with settings) to give you a thrid possibility (and much better video quality) -

a guide for going FROM VCD to DVD
(by Minion)

If the files aren't encoded then you should Use Mpeg2 instead of Mpeg1 because it is a better format and maybe "Bump" the bitrate up to about 1500kbs. This will increase the Quality quite a Bit and still allow you to get 6 hours on a DVD if you use a audio bitrate of 192kbs....

This DVD Format is Called SIF or CIF format and not every DVD authoring program will support this DVD format especially Cheapo DVD authoring programs. Both DVD Lab and TMPGEnc DVD Author will support this DVD format accept with DVDLab you have to use Mpeg2....

You can just encode your files to VCD but use 48000HZ Audio and then author them to a DVD with no problems. That way you could fit 6+ hours of VCD quality Video on a DVD....

When you encode a low resolution VCD file to full resolution DVD Format you loose a lot of quality because you are resizing a small resolution to a large resolution which is were you loose all of the quality, but there is no need to re-encode VCD's to DVD because VCD's are already DVD compliant accept for the audio which needs to be 48000hz to be on a DVD......

a Note about settings in the GOP Structure settings:

Set the "Output Interval for Sequence Header" to "1" and this will Put 1 sequence header before every GOP...
You actually get Better quality when using a smaller GOP but it can cause a slightly bigger file size...
This is the GOP I use:

Number of I Pictures in GOP: 1
Number of P Pictures in GOP: 4
Number of B Picture ins GOP: 2
Number of Frames in GOP: 15

Cheers,

Pete

Scuba Pete...HELP!!! I'm a newbie to burning and I followed your guide for DVD Shrink and Decrypter. Shrink worked great however, I don't know what Decrypter is doing. It started up and for an hour displayed a message 'WRITING LINEIN'. I finally cancelled it since nothing no % was showing as completed. Is this normal? I have a SONY external DL 8X writer connected to a laptop via USB 2.0. I was using FUJIFILM 4X discs (I know... 10 lashes with a toasted DVD). Am I doing something wrong? I'm so jealous of all you rippers out there!! Thanks

That's true, but Nero Ultra is an entire suite of programs, not just one.

Hmmm...., since they both have free trials, you can always even try both. ;>)

yep, use shrink 3.2 and use the re-author mode, or to save menu function disable all but one with substitute still image and burn to disc.

Can someone please tell me what to do?! I have never been able to make a movie DVD copy using this software, but I've successfully copied/backed up files using Nero 6. I'm running a P4 with 1 Ghz RAM and using a Sony DRU-710A Double Layer DVD writer. At what appears to be the end of the movie copy process, I get a box with an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle saying, "Drive operation was not successful. DVD recorder is not ready. Driver error code = 02020408h. Cannot get disc and track information from the recorder. DVD recorder is not ready. Driver error code = 02020407h. The disc is not successfully recorded." I have no idea where to begin. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

(Huuummm,) OK, What software ?
Quote:

(OK, must be that software ) How did you copy a DVD with Nero, it doesn't have a ripper ?

Did you download a movie off the net ? If you did, can you tell us what file mode it's in and exactly what you did with it ?
We kind of need some info, yes ?

Huuummm, that's quite an error.

Have you ever burner anything at all on it ?

Have you tried burning a CD ?

The reason I asked is that it sounds like your burner isn't properly installed.

How about uninstalling it in Divice Manager then rebooting your PC and letting XP find it and reinstall it.

Let's give that a shot shall we ?

Cheers,

Pete
