I have just fitted my first DVD writer. It's listed as Emprex DVD Dual 8x. The Device manager shows it as DVDRW IDE1008. I have tried different media (both 4x) - INFOSMART01 & RITEKG05. Both will write at only 2x.

I have checked device manager and DMA is enabled, the writer's jumper is set to Slave. I am running Windows XP Home on P4 2.4 with 512ddr.

Can anyone tell me why my 8x writer using 4x media will only write at 2x.

I'm starting to think the writer is rhubarb and should be returned.

Grateful for any help or guidance.
