Burning avi to cd-r for stand-alone --- possible?

I remember hearing that you could take an avi file, burn it onto a cd-r and watch it in a stand-alone dvd player. Is this true? If so, is it as simple as just burning the avi file and doing nothing else?

Only of you have one of the Fairly uncommon DVD Players that Supports Playback of Mpeg-4/DivX Files...

If you don"t then you could make a VCD that is if your DVD Player supports VCD which Most do...

Makeing a VCD would entail you encodeing your AVI file to Mpeg1/VCD useing something like TMPGEnc and then Burning it to CD-R in VCD Mode useing something like VCDEasy or Nero..In most cases you would have to Put most VCD movies on 2 CD-R"s....

It is better to Just get a DVD Burner cuz they are So cheap these Days and the Media is Super Cheap now too...
You can Get a DVD Burner for about $50 and a 100 Pack of DVD-R"s for about $30......
