BIG problem need help asap with DVD Drive not seeing media

Ok this just started last night...
I have burned well over 50 disks now all of a sudden
Nero (burn button) is grayed out when i try to burn
I have a toshiba sd-r5112 using Nero 6
has worked fine up till last night
i have rebooted machine for starters, honestly not sure what to look for, it acts as if I havent put in a blank DVD (Prodisk 4x)
Any suggestions on what happened and most importantly what I can do to FIX this????

Hi Navig8r,
As I'm sure you know your Prodisk isn't on our recommended list and for cause, it is ranked medium to poor.
I can only suggest that you try for a media upgrade to some recommended media. Some choices for DVD video burning would be, RiData, Sony, TDK, Ritek G04, Verbatim DataLife, Verbatim DataLife Plus, media boasting "Advanced Metal AZO", Taiyo Yuden's and generally, almost any discs manufactured by Mitsubishi are excellent bets. Other media could very well cause errors, only the very best media should be used for DVD Video backups. Now is defiantly not the time to put your, "Boy did I save money buying this crappy cheap stuff." in - )
It's possible that another firmware update might be available; you could use DVD Decrypter to search for your firmware -
It this juncture that seems like your only 2 options -

I do have a question now for you...
I got that media from
www.supermediastore.com
I read the review there on it and also noticed that it was ranked right up there with Ritek
that is why i purchased them
I used a 50 pack (not a single coaster or prob)
so I purchased a 100 pack (2 50 packs)
My question would be I have since only opened 1 of the
50 packs
In your experience is it possible for me to return the unopened 50??
Just wondering if you have ever done this (not that
you work for them or anything..lol)
I will definetly be switching media per your suggestion
what would be YOUR best suggestion for my
particualr burner Tochiba SD-R5112???
I really cant afford to be experimenting to much
at least not without catching a frying pan to the
back of my head from the wifey and saying "I told you
all that SH** was a waste of time and money".....LOL
Appreciate any help and suggestions you can give me

Your Prodisc don't even sport an EAN code. What is a EAN or a UPC bar code ?
Here is the definition of the codes: The primary purpose for these barcodes is to uniquely identify a product and manufacturer.
The closest we can come is that FUJI (which does sport an EAN code) has the same mfg. code as Prodisc.
Which leads one to speculate that they are mfg at the same plant. A question then, why no code for Prodisc ? A product that's mfged at many plants would find it almost impossible to get a EAN or UPC code as those codes name a specific site of mfg. An unknown dye mfged at different places would be also hard pressed to maintain any type of quality control over their product -
BTW, FUJI is on our poor media list too. Should you wish to know, their dye is unknown also :(

Ooohh yes, before I forget, I wouldn't think you'd have any problem returning your unopened spindle of discs, especially if they wish to keep you as a future customer but every company has their own rules.
