Could anyone help please. I am trying to burn a DVD from hard drive..I keep getting an error saying "Semaphore timeout period has expired". It invites me to retry which I do (57 times!!) and ultimately I got a perfect copy. Surely I don't have to keep my finger on the retry button when I should be away getting a beer. Has anyone had this problem because I would appreciate the solution.

Great site by the way

Chris

Is the name of the DVD file you trying to burn a long one ?? Rename it to a short one !

Windows hates it when the total path length of the source file and the total path length of the
destination file are greater than a given value (128). for example :-
C\My Folder\movies\science_fiction\english\dvd_the toomb_of_the_fallen_angel_in_the_rough_part_1_and_2

is along path name !! ~~smiles

and will cause that

try this --

Copy your source DVD to a NEW folder on your drive which would be C:\New Folder\your DVD
then do a SIMULATION burn !

This link will help you dtermine whether you have USB 1.1 or 2.0 :)

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000602.htm

The semaphore timeout error you're getting indicates that there's a problem with the data transfer between your laptop and burner. USB 1.1 is too slow to properly support a DVD burner.

Is USB 2.0 support enabled in your BIOS?

Have you updated the chipset and USB drivers for your PC?

You may want to pick up a rewritable DVD until you get this sorted out :)
