Hi,
I have been backing up dvd for a short time now and what I'm finding on some disc's perfect playback on others I get mini/micro pausing sometimes once or twice through the movie other times in up to 10 minute blocks. I clean the disc use shrink , nero and aterra +R media. I dont understand the inconsistency I'm getting. By the way I only changed the media I was using because I thought that may have been the problem

Sounds like a media problem. What's the manufacturer ID of the media you're using? You can use this tool to find out:

http://www.tucows.com/preview/336091.html

What make/model burner do you have? Firmware version?

What software are you using?

Your media is among the best so I doubt the problem lies there.

It appears your drives firmware (B373)is two revisions old so updating it may help. Here's a link:

You might also update to the latest version of Nero if you haven't done so :)

To add input to the initial problem. I have had this "micro pausing" (nice terminology by the way) on occasions. My problem seemed to occur during the RIPPING process of my DVD.

I now ensure that any background processes are halted prior to any ripping.

I hope this helps.

Looking for my old AD

UPDATE 1
I have only updated firmware and now instead of taking 40 minutes to burn a +R disc, it now only takes 14 minutes. Yet to watch the result butburning quicker thats gotta be a good sign.
Will also try shrinking without other programmes running ( I already do this when I burn)

If you were taking 40 minutes to burn then you probably were on pio mode which could explain the inconsistencies. The flash probably allowed DMA to be reset.
Hope it works good.:-)

Micro pausing seems to be fixed now, got a feeling it was because at times I was multi tasking while shrinking thats why I think I was getting some good some bad. Any way all seems to be good since I leave computer alone while shrinking and burning.

I have now got the latest free Nero version and the computer doesn't freeze when I try to burn -R I get 'burn process completed' but the disc doesnt play in my dvd player or playstation.
Any other thoughts on why this may be happening, as I said before this wasn't a problem prior to firmware update.

I have now overcome -r burning problem by reducing the burn speed to 2x ( I read that handy hint on someone elses thread.) At this stage i am burning +and- without any problems. Touch wood. Thank you again for the imput. Great site .
