how to re-shrink a dvd that is too big for a dvd-r

i have tried to backup a dvd to dvd-r and shrink tells me the file is too big, i have been told i can re-shrink it to make it fit but i don't know how to, could someone explain to me how to do this.

that doesn't seem to help. i've used shrink loads of times and it has compressed fine but this dvd won't cos there are no extras i can leave off or any audio i can leave off.
