converting downloaded movies to dvd

I have several avi and windows media movies I downloaded, How do I copy them in the right format to a dvd to watch on a dvd player, Sorry If this is a basic question thanks

Hi, been trying to follow this guide, but when it comes to opening the .AVI in TMPGEnc it says that the file can not open or unsupported.
It said supported in AVIcodec though.
Am, I doing someething wrong? I followed the instructions exactly

Humm... odd it'll let me open the file in the audio box yet it wont let me open it in the video box. I have watched the clip on my PC so there is definatly video there.
I'm confused, any help much appreciated

Get cucosoft AVI to vcd/dvd very easy to use. I can email it to you if you want

Have been trawling through so many threads on this subject with loads of software mentioned, I have downloaded about 6 different things now and keep being told I need something else to do this or that
Also this darn wireless keyboard is playing up and keeps missing out letters ... but that is another topic altogether

Does this software give good audio sync to the video? I used DVDSanta and ended up with audio a good 5 seconds off the video!!! Amusing but annoying

I used the AVI-DVD thingy and have ended up with 2 mpeg files and an audio file, not sure what to do with all that.
Will try that link for TPMGEnc, thanx

If the "thingy" you are referring to is the Cucusoft program you need to do the following:
1) Download a program called IFOEdit (1MB in size)
2) Open IFOEdit and click on "DVD Author" then on "Author New DVD"
3) Click on video tab and go to folder you placed Cucusoft files in to. You will only see one file showing, select it
4) Do same as above on the audio tab
5) Enter a destination folder (use an empty folder)
6) Click ok and within about 10 min you will have all your DVD VOB files created
7) Then use Nero, DVD create and place the files that IFOEdit created in to the VIDEO_TS folder and burn the complilation.
Easy as that. I have had a 100% success rate with Cucusoft. As for TPMGEnc I can never get it to work properly hence why I'm here trying to solve my issues. :)

Yep cucosoft is very easy to use and with ifo edit i have never had a problem.

OK I was the original one who started this thread and I must confess I am totally confused. Im just a beginner. What is the basic step to convert video movies in windows media etc to a dvd. is there a free shareware program like dvd ripper etc available? Appreciate any help on thsi Thanks

If you follow fubba's guide above you should have no problems. Just concentrate on his Guide any questions?

Also if you use Cucusoft program you can click on the Help tab and you will get a guide with screenshots to step you through the entire process including the use of IFOEdit etc.

Hey! Thanx for cucusoft. I used that and then IFOEdit however my audio was still off. Have you ever had that problem?

Meowmie.............is the audio fine as an AVI, is it in sync?
Never had that problem before, go to the Cucusoft home page and look throught the FAQ's. When I've had probs in the past I go there and usually find a fix.
You can get various codecs and bits to download that Cucusoft may require if experiencing problems.
