I have movies on vhs tapes. I want to burn them to very simple DVDs. No menus, no fancy shit, all I want is the movie to start playing in my DVD player when I insert the DVD. Simple? No, not for me, and I'm going nuts.
I've tried dozens of programs and there's always something going wrong. What I need is a program that is able to do the following :
- capturing the movie without letting the audio and the video going out of sync
- cropping the picture so that the ugly blurred bar at the bottom can be removed
- mildly editing the movie once it's captured so I can remove a few useless segments
That is already seemingly impossible to find.
IS THIS POSSIBLE, AND HOW??? Thanks.

When capturing AVI, there is a VirtualDub version called VirtualdubVCR+SYNC, which uses a much better method to keep audio and video in sync if you're having trouble with that. Then AVI2DVD (you need DVD2SVCD v.1.2.2 b3 and TMPGEnc) for conversion AVI to DVD.

Thanks very much.
Now, another question, I unfortunately can't manage to capture anything using this program... I go to the capture window, configure everything, and the images from my vcr immediately appear in the window, so I know it is detected properly. However, after I click to start the capture, when I choose to stop it, it says : "Warning: no frames captured. Make sure your capture card is functioning correctly and that a valid video source is connected. You might also try turning off overlay, reducing the image size, or reducing the image depth to 24 or 16-bit."
What can I do?
(PS: I have tried the things they suggest, it's not the problem)

I have an "ASUS Silicon WDM video capture" card. I googled it but am unsure where to find a proper driver for it :|

Thanks for the help again.
I attempted to install this driver, but I had a warning message from Windows telling me it was "unsigned" and strongly advising me not to install it, so I cancelled. Was it normal?

Unsigned driver.. They says: "Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed a wrong driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer."
When in the vdub's capture mode, go to capture -> preferences. There you can see the default capture driver.

Last time I installed such a driver (with the same warning) it screwed up my system and, indeed, I thankfully managed to restore everything back to normal using a system restore point. Now I'm a bit wary to bypass that warning again :o/
The only driver I can choose in the preferences is :
Driver 0 - Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32)

Smart enough not to install this driver on your system. I think, it's better to swap your old capture card to the new one.

...Or you could go to http://www.samsclub.com and buy a LVW-5101 DVD recorder by Lite-On ... At $140, this has got to be the least expensive DVD recorder on the market ...
