Anybody have an experience like this ...
I used dvdshrink to backup a whole disk .
I sent the output to a folder on my HD.
I then used nero to burn it onto a blank dvd+r using the automatic compression settings.
I took the backup down the hall to my tv room and put it into my toshiba dvd player.
Everything seemed to go smoothly, all menus funtioning and everything and then a little into the third chapter a white circle appeared around some of the peoples heads.
It did not suddenly appear, it was like it was being hand drawn on the screen .
Sort of like the stuff that sportcasters do when they are showing a replay of a goal on tv.
I paused the dvd player and just stared at the set for a while.
I backed up the video a bit and started to play it again. It was still there.
The scene changed and the circle vanished. A few seconds later anouther smaller circle was drawn aroung another persons head. After it vanished a scene came on that had a person standing in the middle of a room talking and then very slowly 3 white lines were drawn on one side of his head and then 3 more on the other.
Not long lines - about 5 inches - and not really straight. Like they were being hand drawn.
I did another backup of the same dvd, but used xcopy express this time. Perfect copy but of course without the menus and extras.
I did want the menus and a few of the extras so I tried again.
This time I used dvdshrink to decode the disk to my HD, but set the compression to "none".
It warned me that the resulting files would be too large for a dvd5 but allowed me to proceed.
The resulting files were around 7 gb.
I then ran nero and manually blanked out the audio I didn't need, and replaced the extra portions that I didn't want with just a color screen.
I reduced the quality of the menus and ended up with a set of figues giving me 100% for the main movie, and 100% for the extras that I wanted.
Ran the burn to a new dvd+r and the resulting copy was amazing. And it did not have the weird little white circle of line drawing thing going on.
Any idea of what the lines and circles were about ?
