It wont burn at 1x!!!

I need my cds to burn at 1x but it only gives me the lowest option as 2x or 2.4x for dvd+r
I am using a Sony DRU-710A burner with verbatim cds.
It burns fine but it says on the box it can burn 1x for dvd-r...but it only lets me do 2x in decypter and alchohaul, i was told to scan for all speeds? How do i go about doing that or is there another way?

I hope you're trying to burn with DVD Decrypter - when you choose ISO Write Mode, on the lower right of the window it will say "write speed". If you have a burner that will do it AND the proper discs then choose your speed from those listed.
Again, you can't burn at a speed your burner and discs can't support.

Ok, you said cd, dvd+r, and dvd-r. Which one are you trying to burn at 1x?

Copy To DVD will allow burn speeds down to 1X and BlindWrite will go down to .5X (yes, point five). :)

to back up my ps2 games, but i dont get it
I burnt a dvd-r at 4x and the game turned out perfect but when i burn a dvd+r at 2.4x it comes out choppy on movie scenes.

That choppiness is usually the sign of inferior blank media. Try using a better brand of blank media;
Go Here and look on the left side for DVD Writers and then click on it and enter your make and model #. It will now carry you to a list of media others are using and if they are having any problems w/ the media. Pick the best media from that list and see if that helps.

While checking your players compatibility is usefull it won't help you choose the correct madia for Video DVD burning -
Here are the tried and true recommendations - A good grade, Hi-quality media is needed for DVD reproduction ! RiData, Sony, TDK, "Branded" Ritek G04's or "Branded" Verbatim Data Life, Verbatim DataLife plus, Taiyo Yuden's and generally, almost any discs manufactured by Mitsubishi are excellent bets. Among the better discs we're looking for, any media boasting "Advanced Metal AZO" - BUT it must say "METAL" AZO !, this indicates a superior dye and dye application on a good composite disc, while they are sometimes a bit "pricey" they are just the type of media we're looking for to do our DVD backups, Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 starting at about a $ .45 (USD) a disc -

He was saying he's been burning CD's at 1X, why, I don't know -
I carefully explained to him how to choose his speed in DVD Decrypter and can only surmise there's another reason why he can't burn at ??X whatever -

The media I listed would be for DVD's - I'm sorry I don't have a knowledge about CD discs.
Changing from whatever you're using now for DVD burning will help you quit a bit.
For DVD burning, pay attention to exactly what we're recommending - Just because it says Ritek doesn't mean it's OK - the same goes for Verbatim -
Until you tell us more, I don't know what to suggest -

Hi Scuba - yes but he says he 'needs' to burn at 1x which gets me wondering why. Another possibility could be the firmware?

id say hes trying to burn at 1x because the slower you burn, the better you burn. Data (ps2 disc) burns alot better slowly. However, if the burns are working at 4x but not 2.4, id burn at 4x.
mer187, those discs arent 8x by any chance??

To a certain extent yes - but as low as 1X ? That's going too far.
If you have an 8X disc, the chances are you'll see more writing errors
At that speed so we recommend that pple drop their speed to 4X.
My Pioneer 107 will burn 4X at 8X but I continue to burn at 4X to avoid the chance of errors.
When pple are using cheap media, we recommend they drop their speed to 2.4X to increase the chance of a better burn BUT 1X is a little overboard -
As they say, each to their own :)

Its not something i personally have time for either.
But i do know from experience that some brands of 8x discs dont really like to go slow for some reason
