Hey all. I just got my 120 Maxtor, HD Advance, Swap Magic and Slide Tool the other day, so I'm very new at this, so please bear with my stupidty on the subject.
I want to transfer my downloaded Spiderman 2 from my PC to my PS2's HDD. (I'm aware that downloading games you don't have is illegal, but I chose to try Spiderman 2 because I do in fact own it.)
I've been reccommended to use HDL Dump, but whenever I open it, it greys out the part that says something like "Locally Networked PS2" or whatever. I am networked correctly.
I know there is a process in which I have to send a file to my PS2 (by memory card?) that will make my PC detect that the PS2's networked, or something of that sort. I may be wrong, but this is what I heard (but there weren't any details on how to do so.)
So if any of you know what steps I should take to do this next, I'd greatly appreciate your help.

I believe that HDLDump requires you to make a disc for the PS2 so your PC can communicate with it across the network. You could put the harddrive in your PC and use WinHIIP to transfer the file locally. Just put the harddrive back in your PS2 when you have finished.

Do you know what kind of disc I'd have to make, and what files to put on that disc?
I also just put the Harddrive in my PC to try it that way, and it worked pretty easily, although getting to my computer and opening it up is a giant mess, so I'd like to see how that PC - PS2 transfer worked. It'd svave me a LOT of trouble, and keep me from messing up my computer or harddrive. =)

Try WinHIIP. To me its an easier program to use. Also, You have to format the hard drive with hd advance first before the programs can recognize it.

Yeah, I already formatted it for the PS2. Does that WINHIIP program transfer from PC to PS2? That's what I'm mostly looking for instructions on because I already know how to get images on the harddrive when I put it in my PC.

I dont get what you are trying to do. If you can send images to the hard drive via pc, what are you trying to do?

Erm...
Like, you know how you can put in the PS2 harddrive in your PC, and then put the image onto the that PS2 harddrive from the PC? Well, that requires you to take your PS2 HDD out of your PS2, open your computer, hook up the PS2 HDD to your computer, dump the image onto the HDD, take out the PS2 HDD and put it back in your PS2.
The way I'M talking about is having the PS2 HDD in the PS2, and if you're NETWORKED with your PS2 with your PC, you can transfer the game image from your PC STRAIGHT to your PS2's HDD, which is in the PS2 still. It keeps you from ever having to open up your computer, or even taking out the PS2 HDD from your PS2.
Now, what I'm confused on is how to get HDL Dumb to recognize the network from your PS2 to PC. As "notmyname" said, I guess you have to burn a special disc and put it in your PS2 so that your PC can recognize the network. To do this, I don't know what program to burn and what comes after that. =(

Yes it does excist :) and it works install an image/games direct on your PS2 HDD from your PC using network. By doing that procedure you need the ELF triggered from MC exploit or you can make the cd for and boot it on your PS2. i have the image for it if you want it, just drop a line.

Is Elf 3.11 what you are talking about? If not can you send me it also?
noemailsallowed@afterdawn.com
Edit: Yea if you could send me the image also that would be great.
Edit2: You must just be talking about a ps2 ftp program right?

I PMed ya mjay! <<< i'll log back on tonight when i get back home.
Is Elf 3.11 what you are talking about? <<< an ELF (an .exe for PS2 to trigger network adapter, to link your PS2 to your PC or network)
Edit2: You must just be talking about a ps2 ftp program right? <<< yes, so you don't have to remove your HDD from your PS2, and attach to your HDD to your pc and Dump :) instead the original question from MIRTH is much better and simplier no taking things apart like removing HD and attatch to your PC, too much work.

If its not any trouble, can you tell me how this works? You set up your ps2 adapter with the installation cd, then you just connect the adapter to a line? Is that it? I have a cable modem and a router so I dont get which line to hook up to the adapter.

This guide is aimed for people who own a unmodded PS2 and own HDloader and want to install the MC Exploit.
Before you start you need the following items at hand:
PS2
PS2 Indepen
Network Adapter
CDGenPS2
HDloader retail version
NAD (Network Access Disc), only needed if FlashFXP don?t connect.
ExecFTP 0.68
WinHIIP (or other dumping tool)
FlashFXP
CAT5 Crossover Network Cable (If you are using ICS with PC)
Straight CAT5 Network Cable (If PS2 network adapter connects to a router)
First of all format the HDD using HDloader (you have to do this 1st time with HDloader anyway). Once that is done stick the HDD into your pc and switch it on. Download WinHIIP, ExecFTP, CDGenPS2 and FlashFXP.
Once you have downloaded all of those you are going to need to make an image (which consists of ExecFTP 0.68) which you can then inject onto the PS2 hdd using WinHIIP.
Extract ExecFTP into a folder and place the CDGenPS2 onto the desktop (its only 1 file). Run CDGenPS2 and drag and point the SYSTEM.CNF file (from the folder with ExecFTP in it) into the right hand side of the CDGenPS2. Then right click on the system.cnf and click on and select edit. Check the "Fix LBA" box and set the LBA to 12231 (very important!). Now drag the rest of the files into CDGenPS2 (should only be EXECFTPS.ELF and CONFIG.DAT). Once you done that click on the IMG button on the left hand side and save the image to the desktop for easy access.
Now run WinHIIP (should have extracted that into folder first) and then select the drive that you formatted in the PS2 using HDloader (it will say PS2 next to the size of the hard drive). Now you are gonna have to inject the image you created with CDGenPS2. Click on Add Image(s) and then browse for the image (it should be on the desktop if u took my advice) , select it and then click on start. Once that has finished you will need to turn off the pc and then remove the hdd and put it back in the ps2.
Now start HDLoader using the original disk and run ExecFTP via the GUI menu and it will go to a black screen and it will say that it has started a server on Port 21 on the TV. Leave that running and now to install FlashFXP on the PC. Once that it is done run it. Now create a FTP connection to 192.168.0.10 using port 21 and anonymous. Also in the toggles tab uncheck passive mode. Now click on connect and it will connect to the ps2 for you and you should see 3 folders (hdd, mc, psf). If it does not connect you will need to statically assign your ps2 an IP address using the NAD (more info about this can be found by googling it).
Now that you have established the FTP its all matter of placing the BOOT.ELF and TITLE.DB into the correct directory.
Now find another guide that tells you how to put your PSX games ID into the TITLE.DB so that it works as a trigger (very easily found on this site). Once you have created your TITLE.DB file you will need a BOOT.ELF (that?s any PS2 app you want to make it start with, I use LaunchELF, which can be found at www.eurasia.nu, so that I can run my appz through button association and I can put the ELFs onto a HDD partition and run them from there instead of the MC thus saving space for saves (loads of appz on the MC usually takes up bout 1-2mb I?d say). If you don?t want to get into that and have enough MB on ur MC then just copy all your appz such as HDavance into that directory as well.
Now go into the mc folder and then into 0 folder. Now you will see a list of folders (depends how many saves you got on the memory card). Go inside ?BEDATA-SYSTEM? folder (that?s PAL version, it will be BADATA-SYSTEM for NTSC PS2?s) and now copy over your BOOT.ELF and TITLE.DB into that directory.
That?s it!
Turn off the PS2, place in the trigger CD and let it run, if you followed this right then LaunchELF should come up on the screen.
Now you have successfully installed the MC exploit.
I can make a guide on request about how to install appz onto a HDD partition and get them to run from there.

Navi95, I'm interested in how to install an app over ftp, I want to install cogswap loader specifically. I already have ps2menuk up and running, just need to know which files from the cogswap loader download I need to transfer, and where to put them.
Thanks in advance

Ok. I have a question. This has probably been answered already, but I've been searching and have not found a clear answer to me yet.
Can I transfer a game to my PS2 only using these: network adapter, harddive, hdloader or hdadvanced? And not using the pc to ps2 transfer? Only insing PS2?
