I want to capture video off of my TV...i've got everything hooked up and it works, only problem is that i don't know what codec is best.

what i want to is capture the video and then go back at a later date and chop out commericals and such. capturing as an AVI takes too much space. are there any codecs out there that i can capture in real-time and not drop frames, while still have good quality video that is editable?

or is AVI the only "truly" editable format?

I'm afraid your stuck with the avi. on capture. I used to have the same rob with anilouge as well as with DV. You will just need a big hard drive to give you working space and storage while you convert captured avi's to what ever format you require.
