burned dvd's play in cpu, but only some play in other sources

I've backed up several of my dvd's using dvd shrink and burning them with Nero 6. My problem is that the first dozen or so worked perfectly and the last few play in my cpu's drive only and not on any of my other dvd players. I have a Kenwood dvd player, X-box, and PS2. My burner is a Pioneer DVR-104. I'm still a novice, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another user (Big Orange) gave me this link and it's been a real godsend.

You can search for your model of player, and it has feedback of what media was succesful.

I have been using the same media......but it is cheap generic stuff. But does that explain why they don't work any more in my other players?

I just thought of one other inconsistency with my backing up method......I've used demo versions of Nero to burn them. Could a difference in the demo versions have something to do with it?

according to the chart on the link, my player should work with dvd-r's.

I should ad that all the media I have used is from the same bulk 50 pack.

Not all dvd-r's are made the same :)

Why not just take Nero out of the process and use DVD Decrypter to burn?

I've been trying to burn using dvd decrypter and am having difficulties.....When I try to select a source file, my backed-up files are not a "supported file." I'm pretty unfamiliar with this program, am I doing something wrong?

DVD Decrypter only burns ISO files. So in Shrink you have to create a ISO file.

I currently have dvd shrink 2.3. The files I have backed up on my hard drive are .ifo .vob .bup and _TS I have no idea what that stuff means.

When I use Nero to burn I just click and drag the files. I'm still having troubles understanding how to use dvd decrypter. I've visited the support forum and think I've been trying too hard and confused myself.

You've created a video_ts file. If your going to use Decrypter you need to create a ISO.

In Shrink, when you click backup you need to change the target destination to ISO Image file.

heh heh, that was no type-o. I had a super old version of shrink. I updated it and am going to give your intructions a try. Thanks for all the help and I'll post another message if it works, or not.

well, you hit the nail on the head with the poor media. I burned using decrypter and it didn't work either until I tried using a verbatim dvd-r. It's unfortunate that I learned there are differences after buying a 100 pack of cheap-o's. What are some of the more reputable brands? And do you know if there is a brand of dvd player that reads better (my cheap media) than others?
