strict9 first make sure that the flip top is fully seated to the bootom of the case ( no gap in seam ) if that doesn't work take the flip top off again and crazy glue a piece of plastic to the arm of the hinge that contacts the switch at the rear ( in case your not sure - the switch is at the rear of the case slightly left of the laser tray -it's usually black or white ) you can cut you plastic part slightly wider than the arm but i would keep the length pretty tight and dont go to thick on the plastic - i would use something like a lid to a butter or margarine tub ...actually thats what i used to do the mod instead of a flip top and it works perfect every time ..
the only other switch is located inside the front directly behind the power /reset button and you might notice a tiny square hole on the disc tray area of the origonal lid at the front left corner - for a better description go to http://www.videogamecompany.com/acatalog/Magic-Switch-Menu-English.pdf
copy and paste that link in your browser it will give you a better idea of where the switches are .... good luck luck and post back if you need more help

Thanks for the reply wajax. First I tried a piece of tissue paper in the foward sensor and it still doesn't work, not to mention I'm almost positive that piece of plastic is making contact. So since I also know the disc brake is correctly being pushed back it must be that rear sensor.
I'm still unsure about how to make sure the PS2 lid is correctly pressing that sensor. One thing I thought was odd is that on the normal lid there's a small piece of plastic between the two plastic arm pieces. Yet on the lid I bought there's no piece of plastic. Kind of looks like this:

on the normal lid and this

I thought maybe mine was broken but I looked at pictures online and it looks the same. What part of the lid should be touching that sensor?

with the lid off - the very bottom of the right ( leg or arm ) is what touches the sensor - wouldn't worry about that missing piece you described - it's no where near the sensor . the sensor is so small that any flaws in the flip lid even slight will become a problem - just ask anyone who's tried the "magic tool" getting tool c in just the right spot is a bit of a pain . at any rate glueing a piece of plastic to the very bottom of the leg like i said will give it a bigger foot and should solve it for you ...

You rock! I got it to work. I cut out a 1sq cm piece of margarine tub like you mentioned. I didn't have any super glue so I used a tiny piece of tap and taped that piece over the top of the arm. And it works!
Thanks a whole lot.

hey strict9 - glad to hear it's working - now you know where to put the super glue - which you will be doing sooner than later -the heat and rubbing motion will probably make it fall off - all of us guy's who tried taping the switches down know that . just dont put any glue on the switch itself .

I bought SMD 3.3 and the magic switch for my ps2 v12 but I didnt like the way that the lid had to be open all the time so I taped down the sensor in the back and used a small ball of paper and used tweezers to push it in the hole for the sensor right behind the power button it has worked fine on 46 backups for about a month now

@ ThaSunGod
You don't have to do the 'tape mod' if you use a different mod, like the 'fliptop' or 'slimtool'.

Eh, the first batch or 2 of the slimline put out had some minor flaws with the laser. SwapMagic and our mods do nothing to physically damage the laser. However, running our dvdr media does put some strain on the laser compared to original discs.

Actually memorex is one of the worse brand media to get for ps2 dvd backups. That disc would put more strain on the laser because of it's low quality. So, the laser has a harder time reading the data.
Some good choices i've seen are: Verbatim datalifeplus, Philips, Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, HP, etc.
No side effects of using SwapMagic. Unless you take in to consideration what method of swapping you will be doing. For example, if you use the 'tape mod', like myself, you would be opening the console, so there are some accidents that could occur from that. BUT, no direct side effects from using the discs.
As for stores, i really don't know, i only had to buy 1, so i can't really compare stores.

I just recently purchased a PSTwo (Slim, its v12). I have recieved both Magic Swap 3.3 and the Magic Switch (the three peices of plastic).
I live in Japan, and I purchased it in Canada, so there is NO way I'm gonna be able to return/exchange this bad boy if something is to go wrong with it...so I have a couple of Qs before I use Magic Switch or try the Tape-mod.
Firstly, what detriment is there to using Magic Switch? I understand that the lid remains open while in use (but I can just remove the Tool C, right?)
By holding the CD Break in place, using Tool B, does that mean when swapping disks, I must forcibly stop the motor? Do I yank the disk out and slap the game down while the motor is still spinning?
Does Swap Magic require the CD Break to be disabled? If the Tape-mods work, then it seems that it doesn't...And if not, then why the heck would you use Tool B from Magic Switch? Just use Tool A for the front sensor and Tool C for the rear one.
Also, I need some reassurance about the laser burning out. Was it the media used (as I'm only going to use my system to play Japanese titles) or is it actually a problem with the covering of the sensors for extended periods of time?
One last thing...If I'm only going to play Japanese titles, not "backups", do I really need to use Magic Switch? Or does Swap Magic work by itself?
Thanks for the reply!
