Hello, I have been backing up PC games for a while and am new to the console backup scene.

I recently purchased this PnP mod chip-

http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2nosolder.htm

along with the Swap Magic DVD/CD discs. I also picked up a DVD burner off Ebay.

I am still waiting for my stuff to arrive, but since there are finally a number of great games coming out all at the same time for this platform I was wondering if someone could give me the skinny on the basics of PS2 backups.

What is the best program to use?

Is my mod chip good?

anything else....

Thanks in advance.

thanks for the link sly, i found this one yesterday.

I have trawled the pages of the forums on the site over the past few days. I have swap magic 3 (cd) and 2 (dvd) both euro versions with the slide card tool kit.

I?ve yet to burn and make my first coaster until im certain I understand what ive read on these pages.

I have a version 7 Ps2 which will read Verbatim data live plus dvd+r, however I read that its best to use dvd-r.

I have a P4 3G HT and 512Ram with a new dual layer 8x +/- writer that ive just installed as the slave off my master cdrw.

I have Nero express, Nero vision express2, clone dvd, any dvd and dvd decryptor installed.

DVD decryptor appears to be the most recommended and the link to the linstructions you provided are great.

I understand that it is recommended not to burn faster than 2x.

I read that some backup games may not boot with swap magic and therefore a fix is required from www.swapmagicfix.com that is burned to cd and inserted between the swap magic disc and the backup game.

Id be grateful if someone could tell me whether the cd loader is universal or is it game specific ie each game I burn will need an accompanying cd loader disc or can I use the same disc?

I read a lot about iso, bin and cue files, although I haven?t started making my coasters or Christmas tree decs, can anyone tell me if I need to know what they are, particularly the latter two? Most of the forums just refer to using dvd decrptor and iso images.

Now im starting to get confused, would I be right in saying that any of my games that have network play such as MOH and Fifa2005 will not work when backed up without a DNAS patch (through disc id insertor), even if I don?t go on line?
I believe I need to go here: http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=9388&m=5&url=http%3A//www.ps2tools.tk/ for the patch? Where do I get disc id insertor from?

Instructions on any of the above would be great as im really going in blind here and I know there?s a lot of information available from you guys out there so can someone free me from this jargon to enable be to get ripping?

make the dvd burner the master

cd loader is universal

the dnas patch is only needed if you want to get online with the backup. You can get the progs here: http://members.cox.net/candrid2/index.html
