modded PS2 won't boot games anymore

this recently happend, I've been using AR2 with some modchip installed and recently no games will run (CD or DVD). Movies and audio cd's still play fine. I get a frozen AR2 screen when I try to boot dvds using AR2 and when I boot cd backups (power on using eject button, place cd and then hit eject again). The screen flashes for a moment and then stays at black without the PS1 symbol ever showing. Did my modchip die ? If so would be easy to solder in a new one ? I already have another chip lying around. Thanks

a wire might have come off inside but if it's your chip and if it's the same chip then all you would have to do is desolder the points on the chip and resolder them to the new one

yeah, I figured as much... But, I'm only guessing that my mod chip is the cause of this problem. would you concur that the symptoms suggest this ?
Or could it be another problem?
