okay, i'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff, but from what i hear, an unmodded ps2 can play burnt dvd+r disks. my question is if unmodded ps2's can play them and if they can also play copied p2s games.

yours will play copied dvds fine. You still need a mod to play copied games though.

if you convert your video clips to a DVD-Video compliant format then yes you can play them in your ps2
