alrite an update here. burned the copy yesterday and it works just fine, well so far. Havent had any problems such as slow loading or freeze frames! I have ver 9. ps2 and use Swap Magic DVD/CD. I used DVD Decrypter to REad the file and create an ISO image and used Alcohol 120% to burn it. 120% has been good for burning I would suggest it at the slowest speed.

I am having the same problems. I have magic 3 and i made image of the Real San andreas disc...and burnt it with Nero but it ends up freezing... The way mine freezes is different.. it loads up.. and i even get to play a bit.. but after a while..or when it is loading a mission,, it just freezes..and a screen comes up saying...error reading GTA San andreas disc. i burnt this for a friend that recently got a magic 3.1 and his plays it fine... i dont know if this is my modchips prob...or my laser is either dirty..or dying..? could anyone tell me what i could do. thanx

saltan I got the same prob with the backup saying error reading san andreas , Im using swap magic and have a pretty new playstation version 9 I think, so it might not be your laser, I have been making good backups in general and have come to the conclusion that some just dont work to good, im using ritek go4 and decryptor at 1x ,,I backed up the new tony hawks ok it plays with dvd loader...the thing is san andreas really is almost playable cause the error message goes away and the game carries on so its pretty fustrating........I wonder if swapmagicfix will post something on this

I have had the same problem with my backup. I originally made one with Nero at 2.4x and everything copied fine. I played the game for 4-5 hours with no problems. Then all of a sudden, after I saved my game, when leaving CJ's house, it got stuck on the black screen between inside the house and outside. I retried and the same problem wouldn't occur but now the game wouldn't keep up. I would be driving around and the game wouldn't draw in the buildings and cars quick enough and there would be this mirror like image all over the road. This had happened to me before on GTA 3 even using the original disc so I began to think my ps2 was going shot. So I put the original GTA San Andreas in but could never get it to happen. I concluded that it was just a bad burn. I retried using DVD Decrypter to read and write and made a successful copy. I have played on that copy for 10-15 hours with no problems whatsoever which leads me to believe that I just had a bad burn with Nero. I have a version 1 ps2 and an HP 200j burner, use swap magic slide card and use verbatim digital movie discs.

I made a good back-up of san adreas with stoners settings http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/121556 on alochol 120 using a -rw so im not sure if its the media cause i originally used ritek g04 and decryptor and got the read errors or just using Alcohol 120 with these settings , this whole thing now seems to be trial and error really , the only way to know for sure is to try another ritek go4 with alcohol by the way all were burnt at 1x.........Lenny

Okay: i am having the same problem as legasus9. I burned the game using nero onto a no name brand dvd-r. So i guess i will burn it onto better media using dvd decrypter, but is it a problem that I have Swap Magic version 2.0?

P.S: If you have a laser problem, will you have a problem with any other games, or just that one games, cause all my real games, and other ps2 backups work perfectly

I always use no name media(GAME brand).

Never had problems.. Everyone will have problems with vice city, I get freezing but it starts again, it always takes me 2 - 3 attempts to boot the game. That's all.. except for the games environments loading incredibly slow even on the real disc(Id wait for the PC one as it would run much better from the HDD, we dnt have the HDD for ps2 in UK)

Only time Iv had trouble is the MGS3 demo, the 600mb version from suprnova. It's on DVD-R but you need to use the swap magic cd and then switch around and refresh toc and stuff b4 loading dvd swap and then the demo. My PS2 refuses to read the majority of PS1 games and it refuses to read the swap magic cd version.. and iv tried a freinds cd version and it dnt read either. I'v got a v 5/6 PS2.

And that MGS3 demo is the only problem iv had.. bt that isnt to do with the media. Back to my first point..

GTA:SA works fine, except for minor niggles but it works fine and is an excellent game.

I've had the same problem that the original poster had. I don't have a modchip though, i uses swap magic 3.2. I burned with alchohol non rated memorex version 2.0 media at 3x because that was the only option i had. Either 3x or max. Is it possible to use R-Ws for v7?

You have either got to be having a problem with your chip or your ps2. I believe that if you use decrypter or alcohol with the original disc and use a decent blank dvd, burning at the slowest speed with nothing running on your pc in the background should give you good results. Check to make sure that you disable auto protects of spyware programs and virus scans and disable screen savers and don't touch your computer while in the copying process, don't touch it at all. It definately sounds like your ps2 is where your problem is. I have a version 1 ps2 and use slide card w/ swap disc method, burn with verbatim digital movie disc, using decrypter at 2x with an HP 200j burner, 80gig hd, 512 mg ram pentium 4 2.6 gig. I successfully copied and have had no problems in 20 hours of gameplay. Does the original work in your ps2, if you have the original?

I had a few issues trying to get my copies to work. I finally switched from Maxell dvd-r to Maxell dvd+r, and my last copy works perfectly. "Stomp recordnow max 4.5 to rip...DVD Decrypter to burn at 2.4x"

I am having the same problem as Saltan...SA would load fine, and I even get to play, but it would just lock up usually when loading missions and stuff, or when I exit or enter a building or room...the other thing is certain parts of the city i go to and there are like empty graphics, like I wont see a wall or a ramp stuff like that...yet when I play it at my buddies house it works fine...

I am using V4 PS2 with Swap Magic and Slide Card

So far, I've wasted 3 DVD-R.
I've made over 20 successful backups so far, ALL using DVD Decrypter to Rip, and Roxio to burn.
All have been recorded on DVD-R at 4x or 2.4x speeds.
PS2 is a flip-top modded case using SMD.

This was the first one to give me real problems.
Going on a tip from other posts, I tried using DVD+R for the first time and it fixed my problem.
Same exact process with the only change being the switch from -R to +R.

As I've only ever purchased DVD-R, I had no DVD+R.
I didn't want a whole spindle and I hate paying more than about $.50 per disc.
CompUSA has a manager special, 2 DVD+R for $0.99 (CompUSA brand).
These did the trick and were a cheap solution.

Hope this helps at least one of you.
