Hey

I am using an LG-4120 12x drive and the fastest speeds I am getting are around 1430K/sec or so. This seems slow to me, is this the normal speeds I should expect?

The bigger the file the longer it takes to encode you have to remember its got to compress down to 4.7

Make sure your drives are DMA enabled. Also you are not compressing to 4.7. Its 4.37gb or less. This is the actual size of the blank media.

I was so ugly when I was a kid, my parents used to take me everywhere just so they wouldn't have to kiss me goodbye.

It seem slow to me, but it depends on the power of your system. Higher compressions and qualitiy setting will also increase the encoding time.

If you want to know how your burner is performing, take it for a "test drive" on Nero. It is in the extras section on Nero.

Guy's the encoding speed has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not I am compressing. I am basing this on no compression but whether you compress or not you're KB/sec are not going to change.

I just want to know what speeds (KB/Sec) are other people getting on average? Does mine seem slow at ~ 1430kb/s?

My rate averages 3000 to 4500 for SAMSUNG 16x DVD-ROM SD-616E.

HL-DT-ST 12x DVD DL+R/+R/+RW GRA-4120B the average is 5000 to 7500.

Alright, thats what I wanted to know.

I will need to do a bit of investigating in my PC tonight to see what channel it is on and to ENSURE DMA is enabled....

Could also be that you are using a CSS encrypted disc and your burner/reader has a read lock in the firmware and not allowing you to ripp as fast as you could have done with unlocked firmware.
