Hi

I have just ordered a Magic 3.1 Modchip for my playstation and was looking through the forum for info on how to backup games. I have DVD Decrypter and a NEC DVD+RW drive, do I need to get a DVD-RW drive as my backup movies on DVD+R won't work on my PS2?

To be honest I am not sure I think it is V6 or V7 as it is a SCPH 39003, I saw somewhere that you would have to check the bios chip to confirm.

I've heard that some PS2's can play +R's and even some RW's as well...I think it's just luck of the draw..I don't know if it's specific to the version though

I agree with wong_c_fu. I have a v4 taht I got probably 3 years ago and mine plays +r's, but a lot of other people with the same or newer versions won't. You just have to try it out and see.

Many thanks for your help, would I be right in assuming then that since my V7 won't play +r I need to get a -r DVD writer to backup my games to work with my Modchip?

ok, you should be ok with dvd+r in a v7 ps2, just use quality media and try writing at 2.4x

Even though I can't play any backed up +R DVD movies on my PS2?

i have some movie backups written on dvd-r that refuse to play in my ps2 but play fine in my standalone player(somthing to do with the format they were written in) but some ps2's can be very picky with media it might be worth trying a different brand but as you already have a dvd+r writer and dvd+r media when you get your mod installed you might as well try burning a game to a +r disc and see if it works anyway, but if all else fails then consider a dual format writer
