has anyone had any success with burning "day after tomorrow"? i cant get dvd x or decryptor/ shrink to do it.
and i had my read and write set to "max" on both... and had no issues. i was told to avoid max settings and use "write 4x and read 4x", and it is taking about 2.5 hours...what should i do??? go back to max since it worked? or stick to slow burns with 4 x 4x? thanks!

Hi pointman1,
I backed up that DVD on Wednesday with no problem.
Use DVD Decrypter to rip in the ISO, READ MODE.
Open with DVD Shrink by using FILE, OPEN DISC IMAGE.
Process using Deep Analysis AND Quality Enhancement, Maximum Smoothness, the burn with DVD Decrypter. (I used CopyToDVD myself but if you don't have it use DVD Decrypter.)
It took somewhere around 3 hours but it was excellent !

read should be max(it only speeds up where it needs to anyway), write speed depends on whether your dvd players can play 4x or faster burnt dvdr(w)

To determine whether your standalone dvd player (or whatever) can play 4x (or higher) burnt media, it`s a trial and error route I`m afraid.
It will either play it faultlessly or it won`t.
I suggest burning at 2x and watching the film, then burn another (different film?) at 4x and watch that.

Your standalone player will play the DVD no matter what speed it's bruned at so long as there are no errors. The faster the burn, the greater chance of getting mistakes. Generally burning at 4X is about the best IF you're using decent media. If you're using crappy discs then you may have to lower the burn speed to get a perfectly burned disc.
On DVD Decrypter, I forgot one important setting - "tools", "settings", I/O tab, make sure the box is checked that says "ignore read errors" -

thanks Scuba. i just checked the box.
when i first used decryptor, i had it set to max for read and write... does that mean that using max is going to continue to be okay?... or should i stick to 4 to be smart?

My denon 3000 skips all over the place and plays blocky/pixellated when burned at 4x. At 2x it plays fine, this is with verbatims or ritek media.

Each PC is different and we suggest what works on the majority. Some pple like 6X, me I like 4X even though my burner does 8X. Truth be told ? I didn't have a bad burn at 8X but I switched to 4X anyway.
As has been pointed out, if 4X doesn't work, dial it down some more - When we find out what works for us then we stick with it -
My suggestion, use RW for awhile until you have fined tuned your system - Then, Burn on -

I don't think that has anything to do with the price of eggs in Eastern China, does it ?
If you want to know how fast your burner burns, set write at "Max" and check the log after your burn -

Yes, I was refering to disc type.
If your burner is a +R burner it will burn +RW too.
It won't burn -R or -RW media.
Use +RW discs until you have your problem sorted out.

Heh, heh, Ya need a better friend - (LOl)
We'll try not to lead you that far astray 'round here -
Use the RW for playing around the PC, I always have 1 stuck in a drive to try stuff on, it's soooo much cheaper than frying a ton of discs -

Let's read it all over again -
You use an RW disc to store data that you wish to edit later or record over and - you use an RW disc when you're having problem and you don't wish to make coasters. When everything is going well, use R media to make a backup you'll have for years -
