The older playstations tend to only read dvd-r, some read both + and - and the newer ones read -r +r and rw, its best to test it out by burning a video and see which one it will play , you can also use decryptor which is free to rip and burn your games which I have used since starting this a couple of months ago but i had problems with the san andreas game and tried stoans method with Alcohol 120 and it worked....also when I first got my swap magic discs and slide card my playstation which was a few years old didnt read the swap magic dvd disc and i used the slide card when the disc was still spinning and ruined my sons playstation so it didnt even play anything ! So I had to buy him a new one but so far its been ok but as you see here on these forums there are games that cause problems its not foolproof also there is a site called swapmagicfix which posts problem games and how to fix them , you sometimes have to use another disc that you burn inbetween the swap magic disc and your backup , just keep on reading in these forums and use the search feature and you will find out alot .......Lenny

How do you select which media type you want to burn it as, I see you change the settings of the Playstation 2 media type but how do i select this type if i am burning an .ISO file
GTA:SA by the way, and nice one for the tutorial Stoan.

Can a backup from a backup be any better than the first backup?
Sounds stupid, but if I have a backup that jumps, and I back it up with the method described using Alcohol 120%, will my new backup be any better?
I guess what I am asking is, on a jumpy backup, is data actually missing/corrupt or just written in a way that is difficult to read?

Hi people, i'm new i'm sorry, but i've been searching the Web coz i'm trying to copy GTA San andreas, I've already wasted 5 DVD-r and i'm on my 6 trying your settings on Alcohol. I bought my PS2 about 2 months ago, it's a silver Satan, and it's got a Chip. I've got a pretty good Comp and a Sony dual layer DVD burner. I'm really hoping for this to work coz i have to give back the game today. Been trying for the past 5 hours :P

@ yellers when you insert the game in your dvd drive and use a newer version of alcohol it automatically detects that it is a Ps2 Game.
@ mogvinda
Im not sure if a backup is any better, but it saves the original. Alcohol copies it exactly so that when booting it the ps2 reads it just like the original.

I followed this method with GTASA but my ps2 says that I need to insert a ps2 game. Do I need a mod chip to use this method?

agentman, no u cant trick ur ps2 or you cannot download swap magic, it has to be a pressed in order to bypass the ps2 validation warrenty thing.
