Holic, I also have a V180 and got the multimedia tools to work by changing the USB modem driver to the driver in the p2k file. Search this forum for where to get the p2k file. Be aware though that when I used this driver, now I cannot copy my phonebook to Word or Notepad like I did before changing the driver. Maybe it is coincidental but I'm still working on this.

If anyone has suggestions to solve this I would like to hear about it.

1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.

2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not any unusual modems under the expanded category. In other words, only ONE should be installed and it should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing else.

You may also need to go to Menu-->Setup-->General Setup-->Communication-->Change Modem. From there you can install the correct modem or driver.

I am not sure if this will work for your type of phone, but it is worth the try.

cUnit has given a great tutorial on how to install the phone using the usb cable, but what about if you want to use bluetooth, I can't seem to figure that part out. It either says that it's in use, or the motorola mobile phone tools software won't find it, even though the windows bluetooth devices locates it without an issue...any thoughts?

It seems my problem was that I wasn't able to turn on the Dial-Up Networking (DUN). Once I was able to do that, everything worked flawlessly. Here are instructions to anyone needing that help. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=892891 Good luck :)

Hi, I have a V265 and mobile tools 2.0/USB + win XP PRO. Cannot get the phone to communicate with the damn software (I get the infamous "initializing" message forever and nothing happens...). Anyone knows where I can find step-by-step setup instructions?? Many thanks...

The file at that link seems to be taken from someone's file folder where the program was already installed. In other words it does not have a Setup.exe file to let you install it on your system. It may or may not run properly. I already had ver 3.23 installed on my system, so by just extracting the files in that link and putting it in a folder on my drive then running the mPhoneTools.exe file, it ran as it should. I will try it on a system where no version was previously installed and see what happens. But that will have to wait until tomorrow.

That's what I was afraid of. It seems that a majority of the problems are caused by the phone detection/incorrect drivers installed. To alleviate these problems, I have linked you guys to a file that has all of the v3.25b drivers. If you want to try something, you can replace your driver folder titled Inf with this file folder. It is also titled Inf. If you have 3.11 and switch the files, you may be able to access the correct driver without having to update to 3.25b. This seems plausible, but I have no idea if it will work. Delete your currect Inf folder and replace it with this one. That is, if you don't have the 3.25b MPT.

Good Luck.

Has anyone ran into an error regarding Transmission and Reception Disabled. They are two icons located on the screen of the phone with red circles with a line through them.

This usually happens when the software does not detect the phone.

I cannot get my phonebook to have the split image look like the multimedia studio. Can someone post a screen shot of phonebook? How do I get my contacts off my phone and to my phone?

@DaMan841
I had the same problem. My phone worked with MPT for an hour and then during a file transfer it just stopped detecting. This was before I updated to v3.25b. That could be your problem, or you may need to reinstall the correct driver if you already have MPT v3.25b.

@4tay
What does it look like now? If it displays correctly, you will be able to transfer numbers with three options. One is transfer from computer to phone, one is phone to computer and the third is transfer all (computer and phone) to a save file. That way you can back up both your computer and phone. The three buttons will be between the two explorer windows. Can you post a screenshot of what you see? I have posted a pic below of what it should look like.

I figured out my issue with the transmission and reception for those who need that info. In the General Setup, Under Communication, there are two check boxes. One for Send is Active and one for Receive is Active. By clicking those two, it fixed it so far. However, looking at CUnit's picture, I noticed his says Cingular GSM on the screen...I'm wondering why mine doesn't do the same? I have 3.25b, the latest one through live update.

I already have 3.25b via live update. Took me the whole day using dialup. It is working fine. But I'm afraid it can be corrupted in the future and I don't want to go through live update all over again. Also, I probably will replace my current computer and would want to install V3.25b fresh. Would really be nice to install it one shot - no live update. I am sure most would appreciate if somebody can provide downloadable 3.25b for complete install!! Seems like the file provided by "cUNIT" is not straightforward. But is a good start. So how about it guys!!! THKS

So you can appreciate the pain I have to go through performing live update, here's what I had to do:
Starting from the current version I was able to find at that time, I had to perform live updates in stages as follows:
1)3.07a-->3.11h (12.36MB)
2)3.11h-->3.19 (19.32MB)
3)3.19--->3.19e ( 3.55MB)
4)3.19e-->3.20 ( 8.26MB)
5)3.20--->3.25b ( 9.78MB)

Now there seem to be 3.23 I found here as shown:

http://myskye.com/download/mpt323.exe (46MB)

This is close to 3.25b thus I am assuming live update would not be as painful. Anybody had any success with this?????

Thanks for your feedback.

totochan ... one option is to get a friend with broadband to download the file for you, put it on a thumbdrive or burn it on a CD.

For those who wanted to know ...
The version 3.25 that was put up recently which was a copy of someone's installed files seems to work by just putting the files in a folder on your hard drive EXCEPT for the phonebook feature. I tried this version on a drive that never had a previous version installed. The Phonebook should come up with a window split in two - the left side should have "My Computer" and the right side should have "Mobile Phone", just like when you bring up the Calendar feature.

The window that came up did have Phonebook at the top, but I could not see where to view my SIM card and it was not a window split into left and right.

In my version 3.23, right after the correct window comes up, the software then procedes to read the phone memory and the Sim card. I did not see this happening with ver. 3.25 plus there was a totally different phonebook window.

The multimedia feature worked though.

I then removed version 3.25 from the hard drive, installed ver 3.23, then copied back the 3.25 files into a separate folder from ver 3.23. After I did this, then the phonebook in ver 3.25 worked as it should.

I'm sticking with ver 3.23 since it works with both of my phones - V180 and V300.

Ochuts....
Yes Im aware I can use broadband somewhere else like going to my local library and using a flash drive but I travel a lot with my laptop and will not have broadband access.
Question: During the live update, is there an option to save the update file? I was not paying attention when I was doing this. I just automatically installed the updates. If there is a save option then it would be okay since I can always re-install the updates offline anytime.
The 3.23 version that you have, where did you get it? Will it support V3 Razr?
Thanks for the update....

I don't know where you are, but wherever I go with my laptop in the USA, I can usually get broadband access, free, even if I have to sit in a hotel lobby or parking lot.

I also did not see an option for saving the update, and since I really do not want to update to 3.25 I made sure I was not online when installing 3.23, which I got from a link on this forum - don't remember where exactly. About the V3 I can't say for sure but I don't see why not.

Ochuts....I go overseas a lot and broadband are mostly in Cyber Cafes where you will not be able to save files except floppys.
Did you downloaded v3.23 from this site:
http://myskye.com/download/mpt323.exe
I think I found this from this forum but hesitates to install to try as I dont want to screw up my 3.25b install which is working fine. I just wanted to have a backup 3.25b for future install but will settle for the 3.23 like you have if it will support V3. Can you please look at your 3.23 install if it will support the V3. You can find out by just pretending you have a V3 during the "General Setup" config. If you see the V3 as one of the models available to choose, then most likely it will support it. You also can go look at the "Skins" folder for V3 at the install location of your 3.23
Thanks a bunch..
