hi ahaddon
Ive had this very same problem with my ritek go4's,I ordered 500 ritek ridata,a month or so ago,and I ran into this problem.(some cakeboxes of 50 are fine)
I did all that you tried too.The only thing that got me results, was slowing down the burn speed to 2x.Ive been told this might be a sign of the burner starting to go south, but I think its just some bad media.(yes ritek has some bad stuff from time to time too)
This may help you, or it may not but it worked for me so maybe you want to give it a shot.
You also might want to get some dvdrw's until you get your problem sorted out.
good luck
jim

Hi ahaddon - welcome to aD,

As Jim said, many times it's your media but you're using fairly good media -

A Power Calibration Error can also be caused by problems with the Optical Components of a DVD Writer. Things like a dirty lens or your laser out oif aliegnment - I'd opt for a lens cleaning disc myself.

Here are a few "tricks", 1. Here's a good fix. Compress your DVD to somewhere around 4.3GB instead of the recommended 4360MB. I.e., Go into DVD Shrink, "Edit", "Preferences" then set the "DVD Target Size" to "Custom" and enter 4300MB as the size. Reducing the amount of Data to be burned it keeps your burning away from the disc's edges where the dye on poor quality DVD discs tends to be uneven and may even be brittle and flaking.

2. You may reduce the number of errors and "artifacts" (the "freezing", "skipping" and other picture abnormalities) when burning poor media by burning at a reduced speed. Since you're compressing more it might be wise to burn just the movie, the less you burn the better the quality sooo, movie only, please.

The "Magic cleaning" technique: Try cleaning your DVD discs. Yea, I know they're new and clean but do it anyway. Do it a few seconds before inserting it into your DVD tray, use a disc cleaner, eyeglass cleaning solution or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft cotton cloth and rub-a-dub, dub. As soon as you're finished, "Pop" it into your DVD tray and fire up your program. You would be surprised how many times your disc is now "seen" :-)

Let me know how you make out -

Pete

Strangely enough, I've been getting a 'power calibration error' since last night as well.

I just dropped the burn speed to 4x and it's burning fine now.

Think I'll take pete's advice and give it a good clean though.

Filling the sink up as we speak. hehehe.

This Power calibration error has been driving me insane in the past couple weeks. I did everything that everybody suggested and nothing worked. So, I finally decided to buy a new drive. When I plug it in and guess what same problem occured. I was pissed.
So, I removed the drive and put it in my external USB2 enclosure and problem still there.
I decided to plug the burner power cable into different outlet and see if that will work. Sure enough. It burnt all disc error free. I couldn't believe that I went through all the problem and it only take a minute to fix it.
I would advise you guys to move the power to the computer outlet to a different one than the printer scanner and any other devices that you may have and see if that will fix the problem.

Hope that help. Post the result here just curious if that will work for you guys too.
