HELP WITH NETWORKING MY XBOX

When I try to network my xbox using login: xbox pass: xbox, i get this error (I use smartFTP but the same thing happened with flashFXP):

PASS (hidden)
530 User xbox cannot log in.
Login failed.
Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)..


I'm not currently using a modchip, do I need one to connect?
