Hi,

I get an error message in Nero Express and Vision Express when I try to burn avi files to S/VCD. It says unsupported file format or unable to insert[filename]. This happened from one day to the next. I've tried reinstalling Nero, used all Ahead's clean tools, uninstalled loads of codecs (not all of them) but to no avail. Swept for viruses etc etc. Can anyone help me?

Many thanks,

Can you open the File in Nero ShowTime and right-click on ShowTime and go to Options->Show Additional Info, what does it report about the AVI file?

Or use GSpot and tell us what it reports?

How was the AVI file created?

Craig

Craig,

Thanks for the response. This happens with any AVI, so choosing one at random [that plays fine, as they all do], Showtime->Options->Show Additional Info gives:

Time:..... Title:.... Chapter: ....
Audio: Mp3, 2 channel(s), 160 kBps
Video: 640x272, Xvid, 2.53 MBps

I don't know if the above is what you are asking for, since G-Spot gave a good deal more info and I tested the other avi's I have and they all had a similar problem:

Video: codec Misconfigured!:

DirectShow Render:

DirectShow was unable to render the file. Following is the error it reported:

0x80040265: VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED_STREAM - Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.

I don't understand your last question - how was the AVI file created?

Do you think it is simply a matter of re-installing 3ivx D4 Video Decoder?

Many thanks,
Kolya

I re-installed 3ivx to no avail and googled the GSpot error message "0x80040265: VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED_STREAM" - it seems others have had problems with playback of AVI files, and had this same error message, which they resolved by re-installing Directx9.0b (DIVx forum). I have version c, which I re-installed, but this didn't help. It seems impossible to get back to older versions of directx.

Anyone, any suggestions?

I just installed TMPGEnc as a work around but it is not accepting any of my AVI's, either. The error message I get is "[Filename] cannot open, or is unsupported."

How were the AVI Files created?

Did you create them or download them?

If you go to a Movie Trailer website and download a Movie Trailer in AVI format, do you have the same issue with this file?

How do I tell what I have? I have just uninstalled 3ivx and some Intel A/V ones, as well as quicktime alternative, real player alternative, I don't know if they are codecs or players. I'm not much of an expert as you can tell. If codecs are included automatically with players then I should tell you what players I have: VideoLan, Media Player Classic, Media Player 9 (I uninstalled 10, as well as real player 10(?) and quicktime 6).

I used GSpot on all the AVIs I have since uninstalling the above and it says I no longer have Xvid (though I'm currently watching a file that it says uses that codec), nor DivX 5, nor DivX 3 Low-Motion. It says I do have MPEG-4. I have also uninstalled Nero and cleaned using all the Nero utilities, with a view to re-installing. Is this a good approach?

Thanks,

Yes, that is a good approach.

Once you reinstall Nero, you can run the Nero InfoTool and it will list what codecs are on your system.

or you can just download the Nero InfoTool from our website and then run without installing our software. Its located under Support->Utilities.

I downloaded a program called mmview and it gave me a list of 147 codecs and ActiveX filters, of which 12 were video codecs: cinepak, divx 4.12, iyuv_32.dll, microsoft RLE, microsoft video 1, msh261, msh263 (2 identical entries), msyuv.dll (3 identical entries) and tsbyuv.dll

I've sorted out the ASPI and uninstalled all the codecs I could and reinstalled Nero and still no joy. What should I do?

Thanks
