I recently got a Crystal Xbox but havent gotten round to getting it chipped yet

i got an xbox live 2 month subscription with my xbox but its several months out of date and so am rather annoyed and MS didnt even offer a replacment

anyway i was wondering if it was possible to connect the xbox to the net any other way and download game addons and such?

also i was also wondering about old pre live models my uncle has one of the old ones and since it was before live doesnt have that function in the bios can those be updated?
