I just finished encoding a MPEG to DVDR format and now it is 4x bigger than before i encoded it??? I used Mainconcept's MPEG Encoder and now I am not able to burnit to a dvd because it is 1.5GB larger than what my DVD burner can burn (i only have a single layer dual format burner). The guide i used was here:

I would be very grateful if someone could hlep me!

Yeah, i have the same problem, i found this program that burns the compressed movies straight to DVD but only works in my DVD drive and not my actual DVD, so that sucked...as of this moment, i have not found a program that doesnt encode them to be 4x the size.
What i want to be able to do is have 5 - 20 movies and music clips on the one dvd in compressed files. if anyone has an answer that would be good! I have a DVD drive and have tried many programs.

If you're starting with a standards compliant VCD (ie 352x480 or 352x576) you shouldn't be re-encoding the video at all because that's a valid DVD resolution (and you can use MPEG-1 video only at that resolution on a DVD) and re-encoding will just degrade the quality. All you need to do is Demux the audio and transcode it to 48kHz. Then you can author a DVD from the VCD video and resampled audio.

I tried that and the audio was choppy and the quality was worse. it sounded to electronic. I first tried the guide at http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vcd_to_dvd-r.cfm and i followed it to the letter and it didnt work. so i tried the guide at http://ness888.users.btopenworld.com/fromvcd2dvd.htm and the audio sounded normal.
