Avid does offer a free version of their editor, Xpress. It only allows 2 video/2 audio tracks, and you can only export the movies via DV firewire. As far as finding a free full featured video editor, like Premiere, well, good luck. But Xpress Free is at least worth a try though.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Virtualdub is free and really powerful prog.

You can join .AVI that have the same encoding properties and easily delete the audio tracks and export the audio as well.

Just go to Audio and click No Audio and then export the AVI with audio disabled and it's done.

true, VirtulDub is a good encoder and somewhat of an editor, cause you can join and split files, but you can't edit several clips together on a timeline, which is how most video editors work.

Xpress is alright, but it seems a bit slugish, and only accepts avi's. are there any others you can suggest? thank you.
