I just beat Halo 2 a few minutes ago on Heroic. This may be a spoiler but I dont care. I am extremely upset about the ending. The game cuts off without any notice and it just ends. Are they waiting to release Halo 3? Is or will there be downloadable content on XBOX live that will have the final battle? The teaser was cool, but is this the end? Did anyone beat it on Legendary to see if the ending is diffferent? If anyone has any information or comments on this post, please, let us all know. Enlighten us.

There is an ending to halo 2 and it doesnt just cut off..
MC is asked where he is going and he replys "To Finish this fight" then after credits cortana is confronted by the flood leader as he tells her he will be asking questions and she will be answering her reply is "Okay, Shoot" The end

You've got to be kidding - you call that an ending!!
So while the credits are rolling MC is off kicking some alien butt? Why couldn't you just play that level instead of watching some credits then waiting for some super cheesy "Okay Shoot" end sequence.
Give me a break, did they run out of money or something?

This is wat i think guys, (hope more than think) it cant have taken bungie this long 2 make halo2.. so i think either they have made it in 2 parts so they can get more cash (2nd part alredy made) or they r finishing the game in dl content.. which i find unlikely because they wunt jus leave it out 4 ppl without xbox live... wat u think?

Wishful thinking... we can hope that bungie have not delivered all of it and we sit waiting with empty bellies for the second course.
Perhaps the multiplayer portion of the game is what bungie really wanted to deliver. Single player seems like an afterthought
But with that being said you still can't deny that's a pretty weak ending. You can still break a game into parts and deliver a worthy ending with a twist that makes you want more.
I reckon if they haven't started developing Halo3 (which I'm sure they have) they should hop to it... 3 years is too long to wait for something that could be another disappointment.
Luckily HalfLife 2 is just around the corner. Perhaps that can deliver the goods that Halo2 failed to do.

Gordon Freeman vs Master Chief. In all honesty I think the master chief is an ass kicker but how original is that? some random in a space suit.
The thing I like about GF is that it fits in well with the story of HL and HL2... He's just a normal guy that was in the wrong place at the wrong time and using his wits and a obvious talent with a gun to survive.
Sometimes I think game developers forget to realize how important originality and a solid story line is. DOOM III failed because of this. Valve and Bungie people should use these forums more often to gauge peoples reactions and adapt the sequels accordingly. After all we're forking out our hard earned cash for, more often than not, a bunch of hype.

So you heard that? where did you hear it? I remember a few games back people were posting all sorts of ways to get easter eggs. Complete it twice without losing a life while standing on your head and using your feet. Then once you complete the game twice you have to do 50 press ups in under a minute eat two large pizza's complete another game then the secret hidden mystery level will be opened... oooooo!
Please stick to what you know otherwise we're going to be trying all sorts of crap.

If you watch the stuff on the limited edition DVD you can see how Bungie was very unorganized about the whole production or the game. They ran out of time! They did what they could but what was obvious is that they cut out alot of the things that would have made the games cenamatic sequences great. The end suggests that they whant more money form you for "Halo 3" (Like the Matrix movies started to go down-hill after the first one).
To me Halo 2 plays more like a "Halo 1.5" then a lagit sequal. They had alot of story to tell but had not enough time to tell it (Thats why they keep pushin those damn books down our throats!). They needed about two more years.... ;)
Watch the stuff on the DVD,
Ced

Yeah I did watch those now, after Ive beatent he game. I can see why they gave the game they did. I think that maybe they wanted it out for Christmas. Tsk, tsk, I would of bought it either way. I think most everyone would agree. The biggest thing I do not like about Halo 2, besides the cut-off ending, is the normal mapping loads too late and things appear out of no where. This is a bug and for the most part, it kind of felt like a beta test. ALl in all though, I relaly love the game. Its replay value is incredably high, and I will be playing it for years to come. This as well as Halo, the classic. Halo 2 is a good game but they shoudl have given it another year, I know I would have waited, I will have Half-Life 2, Far Cry, Doom 3, World of Warcraft and Knights of the Old Republic 2 to keep me busy.
By the way, I went though the last level on Legendary, it was the same. Some of you already posted, but I felt like dropping my 2 cents in. Thanks for the posts.

By the way, does anyone have opinions on Multiplayer these days?
I mean, I bought Halo 2. So if they think I am gonna run out and buy XBOX live just to download what seems like only one level, I will just have to do that. But Ill be mad because I had to. The wisest thing for Bungie to do is make a sequal, and Im crossing my fingers for it within 2 years. Theres no need to remodel the characters, they look decent as is, all they need is levels and story, maybe a few weapon changes and thats all. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I hate how games are going these days. BUY ME, then PAY TO PLAY ME, as well as PAY TO PLAY ME ON THE INTERNET YOU ALREADY PAY FOR, and O WHILE YOUR AT IT, BUY XBOX LIVE TOO SO YOU CAN DOWNLOAD STUFF FOR THE GAME THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE VITAL. I hate that. I like the old days where you pay the friken $50, get the game, all the stuffs there, and you can play online for free. If you wanted anythign extra, go download it for free. Why do we support buying a game then paying to play it. If we dont support that, they wont do it. All I am sayign is that the least they should do is lower the game price to about $10, then only make you pay like $5 a month. Or go back to the way things were, $50, heres you game, go have fun. Not $50, now go home and go online and pay more money to play this $50 game. Its all hitting the fan now and I dont like it one bit. Tell me your thoughts and opinions.

Obviously they either ran out of time or money to finish it, or they plan to make a sequel, but when you think about it, as 2005 is right around the corner and next generation systems have been projected for as early as 2006 / 2007, why bother make the game if it's going to take two years, why not just wait till the next system and make it a premier game, which not only sells the game but the system as well? If they don't announce the sequel within the next six months, then I bet they're just going to wait for the next system.
What's more is that this ending had so much stuff going on at the end of it, that you can be sure that all these rumors about downloading an additional level just aren't going to happen. First, why would you bother making a single player level downloadable? Second, it can't be just one level it has to be tons of levels, because not only do you have to stop the covenant fleet from destroying earth (which is going to take more than a single level), you have to get to the Ark, and shutdown the Halo system, which will probably have a number of obstacles in the way. The entire single player game is built on religious allegory. Think about it, it's called the Ark, evidently the Forerunner species, or whatever they're called, built this thing to salvage their species in the event that the halo would destroy them all, it probably has all manner of DNA on it to save all the species in the galaxy (like Noah), so it's probably gaurded by a bunch of clones and maybe even some robot sentinels or something like that. Not only that, but even though the parasite is trying to help you stop the Halo, it is obviously nobodies friend. AN ENTIRE SPECIES OF EXTREMELY ADVANCED LIFEFORMS WIPED THEMSELVES OUT TO KILL THAT THING AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN SUCCEED. The parasite just wants the halo to stop, and then he's going to come along and start assimilating people and making them into freaky ass zombie monsters, so there's gotta be a whole additional set of levels for taking that son of a bitch down. Frankly, I considered the storyline very compelling, even if one might consider the characters of the Master Chief and the Arbiter rather unoriginal, but they weren't mean to be original. Because it's a first person shooter, you, the player, are meant to be able to identify with them so they aren't refered to by name, but instead, by title, and they are given generic personalities - which I think was an interesting way of approaching the issue of drawing us in. All in all, I'm very interested in what they'll do with a third game because they certainly have everything set up for one, and if they work things out correctly, they could even have a story line for a fourth game set up.

Nice summary of the game... Shame that some of the what-happens-next questions weren't answered. I feel that the Bungie guys are preparing the hype again for the sequel whether it be an Xbox or Xbox2 game that must be for certain. It makes money, and just like any hit they will make sequel after sequel until people start losing interest. It's the curse of successful games - at times they try to suck as much as cash out of a concept as they can and instead of trying to create something worthy of a hit they just change the colours of some models then call them a new race, add in a new weapon or hey, put a weapon in both hands. They they slap a 2 on the end of the title and call it a brand new epic adventure.
Some games should just end it when they're ahead. A game like FarCry doesn't need a sequel but those guys should make another game considering how good their first one was.
Other games demand a sequel like starcraft - god dam it! when will that sequel come out?
And as for that other question - "what do you think of multiple payments streams for the same game?" I think it would have to be justified. If the online content was worthy of spending extra cash then so be it.
But after playing enemy territory (a completely free game) and a bloody good one at that. Then you don't have to pay anything extra either. Maps, patches, updates are all free, I know developers can't live off love alone but you don't need to pay for every slice of entertainment they try to drip feed you. Cut the crap and give us the complete game from the outset.
One thing I'm not a big fan of is these online games like EverQuest, Ultima, StarWars Galaxies. The thing that bugged me is Lightspeed - which looks like a great space combat system only works when playing online. Now that just pisses me off. Perhaps this is the scary future. All games will be online ones and soon we'll have all these monthly payments to play games.
