TY 8X Fuji's, won't burn at 8X in my liteon sohw812s?

Now this is puzzling. I have been using Ridata and Fuji 4x DVD-Rs to burn DVDs just fine. Went and scored some of those Fuji 8X TY02's from BB, went home and tried to burn at 8X, and the buffer readout in Nero Burning Rom was doing a strange flickering in conjunction with the light on my liteon going from red to amber. I then got a "Data Verification Failed" message from Nero. Tried it again at 6X, same thing. 4X works fine. I have not flashed this burner yet, but I wouldn't mind burning at 8X. The sohw812s SAYS it will burn at 8X...
Did I miss something? I have 200+ burns at 4X with NO
problems.

Anyone that has a clue please help...NERO won't even *show* 8X in the speed options unless the media handles that speed...
PS:It may say 'newbie' over on the left but that doesen't mean I am totally inexperienced or stoopid, ok?
