vob to mpeg: tools are failing

I have some vob files which were ripped with dvdripper. Due to a read failure from the DVD, the last large vob file (vts_01_04.vob) is likely truncated. Since the rip terminated, the remaining files were not transferred and I no longer have the DVD. I do have all of the "main" files [which is all I need in Vegas], with vts_01__04.vob probably corrupt at the end when the read failure occured. I can click on any of the files and they will play in Windows Media player on my XP home system (although they all give catastropic failures at the end when done playing in Media player).

Attempting to open up the vob files in Vegas 5.0 causes vegas to hang. [This happens about 50% of the time when trying to open vobs - seems to be normal for Vegas].

I went into dvd2avi, saved the project with all of the vob files. When it was processing it showed all of the video correctly. The d2v file was then loaded into tempgenic. Tempgenic after crunching data for a while fails with the error "cannot open the file *.dv2". I tried with one very short vob file (video_ts.vob) and it also fails.

I tried to run contextconvertpro, but when I click on the icon it never comes up.

When I ran virtualdub 1.6.1, I do a file/open, specify one of the 5 vob files, and get the error "cannot determine file type". I tried renaming the .d2v from dvd2avi to .mpg, but get the same error.

Can any one suggest a way to get this working?
