Hi, I'm new here and have been looking throught the articles. There is some great information under "Guides"

One in particular is under DVD-R
"Copy DVD to DVD-R using DVD Decrypter (DVD's smaller than 4.36GB)"

I want to use a Dual Layer Disks to copy movies. The movies are DVD-9 and larger than 4.3GB.
Is there a Decrypter or similar program to help me Copy DVD-9 to DVD-9? Basically, Copy DVD's larger than 4.36GB.

Can anyone let me know what and how to do it?
Thanks

Hi razz1234, welcome to aD,

You can use DVD Shrink (FREE) to do your DL discs. Go to "edit", "preferences" and select DVD-( under "Target size" and you're good to go -

Cheers,

Pete

Hi thanks for your response,

I was under the impression that using a "shrink" program will compress the video and audio and I will not have as high a resolution as on the Original DVD.

Is that this true... I have a high end home theater (in my opinion) and don't want to compromise quality.

Razz1234,

You need a program to break the DVD's encryption and to encode the files and perhaps edit your DVD if you wish, prior to burning. Using DVD Shrink as I've told you to do involves no compression but allows you to do the other things.

Because a car is called "Dodge" doesn't mean that it will "Jump" out of the way when faced with another car coming toward it (Lol).

Using you new Dual layer burner and Dual layer discs still requires the use of other proggys. I just mentioned one that will do thw job nicely and it's free -

Cheers,

Pete

The last release of DVD Decrypter will support dual layer burning. Simple ISO read ISO write.
It's also free.

Hope you don't mind iffin I add my 1.15 cents (lol)

Though DVD Decrypter is excellent to do an exact copy of your original DVD, many like to remove the FBI warnings, trailers and such that you might not like to watch in your backup. DVD Shrink will allow you to do that and like DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink is FREE also -

So am I correct in saying.... Both are free and Both will write to Dual Layer Discs without compromising any resolution?

But Disk Shrink has the advatage of removing unwanted material and Decrypter does not???

Actually Shrink can only write to your hard drive. It will take away the copright protection and arrange all those files into a Video_TS folder, or an ISO file, depending on which you choose, on your hard drive to burn with your favorite burning program. You do have the choice to autoburn with Nero, DVD Decrypter, or CopytoDVD.
To autoburn with Decrypter(why not, it's free) you'll need to choose the ISO, since that is the only format that Decrypter will burn.

razz1234,

To answer your first question, No there's no difference in quality between an ISO image and a VOB file - If you have an ISO image you can use ISO Buster or DVD Shrink to turn them back into a VOB file and there's no loss at all of your picture quality.

As for your second question, you're becoming far too lazy at this point - go to the top of the page, choose the Glossary tab and lQQk it up your self, it's not hard at all - just pick out the term and click on it and an explaination will come up for you to read -

Cheers,

Pete

Pete, I do appreciate all the help given here but to say that I am "far too lazy" is very inaccurate and rude.

I am new to burning cd/dvd's and wanted to learn as much as I can before I went out and made an uneducated buy. I have spent hours reading and researching what to buy and trying to deal with the problem I had with my new CD burner. I have learned a great deal at this site and others over the last week or so. These forums are great to have access to and they are here so people like me can ask questions that they do not quite fully understand.

The only reason I'm writing this to you is because you went out of your way to say "I'm lazy and should look it up myself"... It would have been far quicker and easier for you to either just state what they were or, better yet, just point out that I could find these and other terms in the glossary above... How simple is that?

So since I'm such a F#$%%!# trouble for you...please don't bother answering any further questions I may have...Your help and your smart-ass coments are no longer wanted!

Razz1234,
Boy, you sure are thin skinned. Pete said nothing wrong to you. I see no need to insult him just for giving advise to look something up yourself. No one on this site gets paid. We are all on our own time here and do this to help other people when we can. If someone told me that I was getting lazy, I would probably just agree with them. You need to lighten up a bit.

Razz1234,

Quote:

Actually, it would't be either quicker OR easier for me to save you those 2 little mouseie clicks -

Now we're showing just how lazy we are - You have a lot of gall to suggest that I spend my time typing the answer for you because you are too lazy to get your own answer -

As for "smart-assed comments", you have no idea in the world what you're asking for -

About 3 ½ yrs ago after just returning from a Scuba Diving trip to Honduras (the island of Roatan) and Belize, I took a fall in my front yard and snapped my neck in 2 places - I have been in Rehab ever since then.

- I'm listed as a quadriplegic - When I type, I type with the aid of one, 4" long pencil in one hand, eraser end down and the index finger (braced) of my other hand. Until 2 weeks ago, I used 2 pencils it's just recently I've gotten Botox treatments which have allowed me to cease using two pencils and begin using a finger. My wrists aren't that flexible so, I bend at the elbows (just in case you want to try it sometime to see what it's like).

So you see, you are asking a lot when the "lazy" bug gets you. Yea, I can see where it's too hard for you to do for yourself. I wouldn't know anything about it.

You want everything done for you - Did you ever stop to think why we're answering your questions ? No, you don't stop to think - Well I'll tell you, we did for ourselves. We spent the time on our own, looking at the pages, the Guides, the Glossary, the threads. I didn't post for almost 6 months because I spent my time reading. Even our rules here, you know, the ones at the top of every Forum that say, "READ THIS" and go on to tell you to look first at our threads and our Guides BEFORE you post, or perhaps they don't apply to you cause you're so special - You say, "smart-ass comments", why Razz1234, look in the mirror, they were yours - Re-read your own thread - I've spent quite a bit of time telling you things you could have garnered from reading the "tutorial" of the programs I've given you. The one time you went over the line, because you were too lazy and you take "offence" - well I suggest you take your "offence" and place it somewhere other than this forum.

Time allotted to respond to your childish temper-tantrum post, 2 hours 55 minutes.

Pete,

I am very sorry to hear of your misfortune. I had no idea, especially since you always seem to type such long replies to the lazy people who come here wanting everyone to do their leg work. It nevers ceases to amaze me how some people think that forums like this are paying jobs or something. I've moderated on other (not related) forums and I know exactly what it is and it ain't nothing about making money.

Pete, you keep on keeping on. I for one really appreciate everything you and the others here do for all of us newbies even is some people don't.

Pete,

I have too much going on in my life to spend 6 months "looking things up" when all i did was ask stupid little question. THAT iS WHAT THESE FORUMS ARE FOR!!!!!!!!!
Also.... this IS the newbie forum so you SHOULD expect people to not know a few things....I agree that I should look things up and learn what I can, and if you look at the string I state how I HAVE been looking things up and have learned a great deal, I even gave an example. And questions I asked were/are not in the reference material here. It is very clear what I was asking and --- I DO KNOW WHAT I ASKING FOR
Mabey you just don't listen.
Additonally, the question that started all this was just in passing, it wasn't important and not the real issue. I got upset with you because you said YOUR FAR TO LAZY NOW. I have never been lazy in my life! Taking a quicker path to knowledge is what this entire format is about.
Furthermore, I don't care to hear your "pitty vote" on how hard it is for you to anwer my questions... It's completely irrelevant. Taking 2 hours and 55 minutes to answer my "childish temper-tantrum post" is your problem - not mine, so don't think I'm going to feel sorry for you. Because that is what you want. You want everyone to say "poor Pete has put so much effort in" well I'm not going to say that! You were rude and thats how I'll treat you. If it takes too much effort to answer a post... then don't!
What are we supposed to bow down to you because it's sooooo hard for you to write a response???? Don't bother!

FYI,,aD is a learning forum, as in trying to impart knowledge into your life that will last at least until you can burn a simple DVD. If you want to "read the directions" buy a proggie. They come with them. If you want to learn something, read the guides and look thru the posts. If your life is too full to do these simple little things fella,,, I suggest you save a lot of time and go to WalMart and buy your DVD's. Happy Burning :>)

Razz,

I have been reading on this forum for awhile now and this is the first time I've seen Pete say anything about his accident. I admit he has a weird sense of humor and takes getting used to but I consider myself weird too so it don't bother me.

As for your last post, I think you are way out of line. Do you believe in karma? I doubt it since you seem to be such a prick, but I do. What comes around, goes around. Watch out your time might be coming someday.

Bigfoot...
So it seems you don't know how to read my opening post either. I have not yet bought a DVD player and am trying to learn what I can before I buy it. AND as my thread states, I HAVE been reading threads and going throught the GUIDEs.

The questions I asked have not been answered anywhere so as a "newbie" I thought I would ask.

*** There is no thread in Guide on how to burn a Duel Layer Disk

*** There is no mention about Compression differences and quality issues

My bad was asking.... what does ISO and TS stand for

I"m a member to a few other forums dealing with diffent things and no one have ever responded to a simple question the way this one has been...

GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!

Razz1234,
Hi In answer to your first question which Pete did answer here is a guide on burning DVD9 to DVD9
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

To your second question about compression there are 25 post's on this forum here
http://www.afterdawn.com/search/search_results.cfm#results

OK that took me all of 5 seconds to find on here. Less time than it probably took you to write your post. I have nothing against you nor do I fell pitty for Pete, but I have been on this forum alot and I can tell you this Pete has helped more people on here than anyone else I know. I know they get tired of answering the same questions over & over all he was doing was trying to help you help yourself. You need to get a little thicker skin and not take everything so personal. If you are truly trying to educate yourself and learn all of this out before purchaqsing a DVD Player or Writer then why would you take what one person writes on this forum as gospel anyway(no offense Pete)? Wouldn't you be doing a little research and look in several areas of this forum and browse the internet so that you have several aspects to choose from so you could make an informed decision. That is why you should take the time to read threw the forum which you stated didn't have the answers to your questions, but I found them here in about 5 seconds. Well I have spent enough time on this and I am in no way trying to insult you or do I mean any harm. I hope you find out everything you need. Here is where you could have found answer's to your later questions. What does ISO stand for
http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/iso.cfm

and this is where you would have found TS
http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/video_ts.cfm

I highly doubt if you even bothered looking for them, and I'm not really even sure why I bothered answering your post except that maybe this will end your childish behavior (why do I doubt that) Anyway good luck with all your future post's on here as I doubt to many people will try to help you out now.
