used DVD -R but xbox doesnt recognize

this may be an old question, but i am a newbie.
I just got a Iomega super DVD external burner that can burn DVD+r or DVD-r or DUal layer.
I went ahead and downloaded DVD decryptor and it put the VIDEO_TS files on my hard drive. then I burnt them(using iomega hot burn) on a DVD -r (generic brand)but my Xbox or other DVD player doesnt recognize, will they play on any other dvd besides the iomega drive?? how do i get them to play in my Xbox OR just any DVD player. The dvd's I also tried were the ones I bought were from bestbuy called DYNEX 8x DVR+R

do these suck and this the reason i cant get the m to run? which sould I use?
