Well, times can vary alot depending on your PC and what your processer speed is and how much RAM you have. It's also possible that your drive slipped out of DMA mode and into PIO.
So you can probably guess what I'm about to ask.
What are your system specs?
We'll go from there.

Ok, with an 800Mhz processor, 2hrs is probably about right. We can check one more option but I seriously doubt we're going to gain anything.

We're going to see if your drive is in PIO or DMA mode. PIO is a very slow way your computer transfers information. Your PC will drop into this mode if it gets too many errors in the DMA mode. To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager
1. Open Device Manager
2. Double-click IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your burner is connected and select Properties. Now click the Advanced Settings tab.
4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if available if the current setting says, "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already says, "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must "toggle" the settings. That is, change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click "OK".
Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to "DMA if available".

OPTION: Right-click the burner and select "Uninstall" and then "OK" all prompts until the PC reboots. Upon rebooting, the PC should "find" your burner and reinstall it setting it by "Default" to DMA.

Hello people,

The help on the whole burning "time" thing is greatley appreciated I to have a very similar spec as the one mentioned mine is 733Mhz Pentium, 448Mhz of ram 40 Gb HD but my burning is taking 8hrs (yes 8hrs) I am using a external USB 2.0 burner, which is pluged into a USB 1 socked, but using the internal DVD try to read the DVD, I am also using the latest Shrink and DVDDecp to do full copies with setting set to max sharpness and deep analysis. I have also done the DMA checks and uninstalled all the devices and let XP pick them back up again, I have aslo done a defrage but still burnig 3hrs to analysis it, 3hrs to decode it and finally 2hrs to burn it i am using Verbatim DVD 4X so the finish product looks good but the length is just unbelievable. Even when I reaurther it and did the movie only it took 4hrs, So diamond27 2hrs doesn't seem that bad, But back at work i have a 2.8Mhz Pen 4 128 ram It only takes 1.5hrs to burn the same full movie.

So any help to reduce the time down would be great is there any setting in shrink or Decpt. to force the devices to use DMA only and not drop to PIO is this what is going on?

dayspring,

It's taking 2 hours to burn because of the USB 1 connection. The USB 1 connection is really restricting the information flow to your burner.

Your internal DVD drive is a DVD ROM correct?
Do you have current firmware for your ROM drive?

You might also try to turn off everything in your start up directory to free up some RAM.
