Memorex buys their media from several different manufacturers, usually very low quality ones but if you got Ritek G05 then it appears Memorex broke their long standing tradition of selling junk. Just don't count on getting G05 all the time from them :)

I bought some good Memorex that were FUJIFILM at Fry's then I bought some that looked the same at Office Depot. When checked with the DVD Identifier They turned out to be CMC Magnetics which are considered 0 - 50% failure rate. Luckly I took them back and Office Depot credited my account without a hassle.

I wonder if their are any brands I can just pick up in a store and not have to guess at what I'm buying.

Maxell (MXLRG01 or G02) and Verbatim DataLifePlus (MCC) are two that come to mind :)

Well. I just decided it would be easier to just order Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media silver thermal printable 100 pack for $65 total including tax and shipping.

This way I get one of the best for .65 a DVD. I won't have to be reading through the small print in the crowded store.

That was the only fly in the ointment. I didn't have a coupon and I bet %99.99 don't.

I tried to go somewhere else to buy them because of the misleading advertisement but always found something worse with the others so I just bought them.

I think Kchev was trying to help you out with his link the same disc's you mentioned are only $48 at rima and at supermedia where you got yours you don't actually need a coupon just the code which they give you in the discreption of the disks it says "apply code : taiyo10doff at check out". Sometimes you have to read the small print :-) Could have save $10

kchev:

The reason I didn't buy them at Rima is because they have 2 Manufactrer ID's. One of them I didn't recongnize as an athentic code. TY02. Should be TGY01 or TYG02. Maybe a typo mistake or a code I haven't heard of? Probably ok but who knows.
