im currently using roxio cd and dvd creator 6 for all my burning i was wondering if this was a good program or if i should use a different one and what the advantages were,currently just burning avi havent gotten into the ripping game yet but what should i use for that as well

I won't say that Roxio is bad, but it has been problematic for some people. It has a packet writing program in it that doesn't like to share your burner for other burning apps to use resulting in errors.

For DVDs, start with the free stuff like DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink first. As you gain experience you can decide whether or not you might want to try other software for different options. Most have a trial period to evaluate their performance.
