Just got a new Sony 710a Recorder and am having nothing but troubles and I was wondering if anyone out there can help a brother out.
I am using DVD Shrink 3.2 making the files at 4.3 Gigs to ensure sufficant disc space.
Windows XP and up to date.
710a firmware upgraded to BY2X since I also had the same trouble using the original firmware.
Using Nero OEM that was bundled software that came with the burner and updated Nero to the lastest 6.6.
Max speed was set at 1x and 2x to see if I had any difference in result. No difference.
Once shrink is done I had it set to auto burn with Nero and I get failed to burn at 2X error while trying to do the Lead-In writing. So I took a different approach and disabled Nero to start burning after Shrink. Manually opening Nero Express I started the burn process again. This time it passed the write Lead in, burned 100% of the movie, this time it failed to write the Lead-out process. Not running any programs and has plenty of memory and disk space. Anyone know what maybe wrong? Thanks for your input!

You shouldnt be using Nero Express. Open up "Nero Burning ROM" and select "DVD Video" (3rd icon down)

Is your DVD Writer in DMA mode or PIO Mode. Can you print out the Nero log and post it on here?
Try Copy2DVD http://www.download.com/CopyToDVD/3000-2242_4-10342429.html

This is more stable a program and if it works we know the proble is in Nero..

Hmmm looks like your new drive dosen't like your media. What brand / type of media are you using?

The brand is called KHypermedia DVD-R. I believe it is an office max brand. I guess you really do get what you pay for! I'm assuming the next step is to try another brand. Again thankyou for all your help. And I will recommend your site to other newbies like myself!

Yeah, those disks are manufactured by CMC that is the worst you could get. Staples dosent really sell any good DVD Media. It's kind of hit or miss. I think they sell some Fuji Film DVD's and those arent bad, but you can do better if you are willing to buy media on line. Better in price and quality. I would suggest either of these sight's

Get TaiyoYuden, Ridisk, or Prodisc and you should be good. Also start out with the -R's they seem to be a little less buggy ;-) For the price the Prodisc are the best deal goin..
